I'm not sure how I missed the taping of this in our sleepy little town!

There was an unsolved murder of a local woman in a church right down the road from us in January 2008. It took almost a year to find out who did it - here it was a member of the church. She supposedly killed the church secretary because she felt the secretary was romantically involved with the pastor, and she herself had feelings for him. The woman was convicted, and is also a person of interest in her own father's disappearance. She claims she is innocent of both incidents. Very disturbing.

ANYWAY...my friend is a volunteer at the church & walked in to find her good friend, the church secretary, shot dead in the church office. I have no idea if she will be on Dateline tonight, she's been very quiet about the whole incident. I'm curious as to why this story has gotten national interest - and to see how they will spin the story, if it's anything different from what the news or my friend has said.

Just wanted to share - I'm sort of shocked! It's on at 10pm on NBC if anyone is up to catch it. The segment is called Deadly Sanctuary. Creepy.

I'll try to watch this story. It sounds like a terrible tragedy, and I'm so sorry for what your poor friend must have gone through.

(Guess I'll be flipping channels back and forth, since ABC has a special on the inside story of Bernie Madoff. Another tragic story, though much different.)

Looks like a good TV night all around. I love the Dateline shows, they are usually very factual & fair, I have no idea what they are showing tonight. I'm surprised my friend didn't mention this, but like I said, she has been very quiet about the whole thing.

Any other PA-ers out there - especially local ones - that followed this story?

I've been following it in the newspaper and on WFMZ's website. Such a strange story, with such a tragic ending for the poor victim. The murderer seems like she is quite off her rocker.

Hi Jessamy!

Yes I would have to say there are some mental issues going on there!

I'm curious to see what side they're showing tongiht - the victim's friends & family, or the murderer's. Who knows, it might end up being a 2-minute segment.

Wow, the lead story! Tara, what is your friend's first name in case they show her?

We're watching now, too. We are also in Bucks county, and we have followed this story from the beginning. Such a tragedy.

Yes, Judy the sexton is my friend. The lady with short reddish hair that's doing most of the talking. I'm glued to this! I had no idea they were even doing this segment until her daughter emailed me earlier today.

Your poor friend! I can't imagine how traumatic that was for her to go through.

I am nauseous after hearing her 911 call - I had not heard that before...

Judy was our old neighbor. In June of 2001 their house burned to the ground. We sat in our driveway all night - for 5 hours - waiting for word that everyone was ok - until we heard her screams that son was dead. Hearing her urgent cries on that 911 call really brought that night back to me, it was the most awful thing. I will never forget her screams as long as I live. If that wasn't enough now she had to go through this too. She's a strong woman, I can tell you that!

Back to the show...

OMG, that poor woman! How awful to go through the fire and death of a child, then this whole mess.

I didn't know that Mary Jane Fonder is trying to appeal. I just feel sick after watching that. I guess I'll have to follow this story in the local news to see if she gets the appeal. Off to bed.

I watched this tonight too. I'm so sorry for the loss of her son. My son still remembers my screams from the horrible night I lost my daughter in a fire. He once told me word for word what I was screaming. :sad1: I hate that that will forever be in his head.

Oh how awful for you and your family.

Oh Octoberbeauty I'm so sorry for your loss. So sorry your son will not forget that day either, hopefully time can lessen the pain. I can re-play the entire night in my head like it was yesterday, and it was 8 years ago, and I was just a neighbor & friend. Hugs to you & your family!
