I'm sitting here on bedrest for my leg from the accident, don't have a car and don't know how long i'll be without one. Worrying about taking care of my kids while i'm on bedrest. Now have issues with my grandma renigging some on watching our kids while we are in Ireland, tickets already bought! :rolleyes2

And i'm sitting here watching Birth Day Live and I can't help but want another one! I will restrain myself, I will restrain myself... but still, even with my very difficult last pregnancy, I love everything about being pregnant, love to be in labor and to push and give birth. I love newborns, the crying at all hours, waking up in the middle of the night... ect. I will retrain myself!!! :confused3 :guilty:

This show is killing me!!! :sad2:

My sister is pregnant so at least we'll have another little newborn at easy access. The best kind of newborn, the kind you can love on and play with and dote on and then give back and not have to pay a cent!!!

I hear ya loud and clear. I'm the same as you. Thank God I have a job that allows me to witness the miracle of birth all the time!! I'm happy with my 6 - but happy I still get to be part of the birthing process....just on the other end now LOL!

6 wow! Awesome for you. I don't think i'd have the stamina for 6 all though I wouldn't mind having 6. Hard to explain I guess.

I've always said I wanted to be a labor and delivery nurse... it's one of my long term goals. Once I get all 3 in school, i'd like to get started on that.

Good for you! I'm not a labor and delivery nurse....just a doula. I like being a doula because I get to build a great relationship with my clients before they deliver - it makes the delivery even more emotional for me (I cry at every single birth! LOL). Helps me to learn what they want to avoid and what their expectations are. I've got clients who still invite me to their babies 4th birthday parties! I love that part about my job  I got a wall full of pictures of smiling babies in my home office :sunny:

Once upon a time I used to dream of being pregnant, reading books to the baby in my womb and then I watched a little too much Birth Day Live.

Now I dream about Dear SO carrying little babies and reading books and let her go through the labor experience.

She can have the pain, gain the weight, experience morning sickness and be miserable. I know in the end it's worth it, but I don't think I can handle it.

Dear SO is not allowed to watch Birth day as I don't want her to become afraid, as I became afraid.

I loved being pregnant and having a newborn. Hubby's cousin just had a baby and it gave me the "Baby fever" for a few days... but I got over it! LOL :)

I used to think I wanted to work in L&D myself. I guess I'm a more low-intervention kind of gal, and seeing the way birth is often handled in hospitals (locally, anyway) really disappointed me. For that reason, I'm seeking other areas of nursing! :)

I'm looking for a back up doula - sounds like its right up your alley! :teeth: Although I guess Mississippi is a little far to travel and make it in time for the birth LOL!

How do you coordinate the schedule of being a doula with that of being a mom? What training did you need to be a doula?

Awww, icebrat001 you gotta give it a chance... it's really a wonderful and beautiful experiance.... I bet if SO has the first one, you'll want to have the next one. Quote me on that!!! LoL.

Mannasn, we have 2 really great labor and delivery departments here... Celine Dion had her son at one of them, even named a L&D room after her. My sister's SIL had both of her dd's in that room.... LOL.

LOL! That's a shame! I was actually signed up for a doula course before I began nursing school and one of my favorite websites was Birthlove.. I had to put it off at the time, and just never got back around to it... Ah well!

I think I might eventually like to do L&D, if I could find the right facility (maybe a birth center). I also think I'd be interested in IBCLC.

At one of the larger womens centers in this area, they still routinely do enemas and shaves on their laboring patients! Is that not ridiculous? And that's just the beginning of my frustrations with this place! LOL :)

Sorry! <end rant here> LOL :)

Shaving and enemas? GOOD GRIEF!!!

Yes, i'd also love to know what training and all that a doula requires? Sounds like a fantastic job but I really want a hands on with the babies.

It's got it's pluses and minuses. The good thing is - I get to take as many or as little clients as I want. Usually I take 2 clients a month. Bad thing is...you never know how long their labor's will last. I've been gone for close to 72 hours a few times. My DH has a family owned business - so when my pager goes off, he comes home to watch the kids...he's very supportive that way :)

The training depends on what organization you certify with. I certified with DONA (Doula's of North America). It was a few weeks worth of training and than I had to have written evaluations from attending Dr.'s and nurses. I also had to turn in lots of paperwork.

It's very fulfilling! If you want to take a peek at my website feel free - http://www.specialdeliverease.net

Make sure you check out the photo's page - all those pic's are very irresistable! Also click on the video on that page (it makes people cry every time LOL)

Edited to add - the woman on the first page of my website is my sister. I took all of the pic's and I always have a hard time choosing which one's to upload to my site.

Ok, kinda stupid question.... what EXACTLY does a doula do? Is it mostly for people that want to do a natural birth? Duh, just read it on your site... very very cool! Beautiful website as well.

Beautiful website, transparant! Very nicely done! :)

I'll look at it tomorrow then when my DH isn't in the room. :) If it's something that even some people cry at it means that I will bawl! :teeth: We had a montrice at the birth of our first 2 babies 15 and 18 years ago (and the second filmed for a CPM video) and the next 2 ( 12 and 6 years ago) in a free-standing birthing center. All great experiences!

The photo page on Transparants site did it for me. I feel the same way the OP does. DH and I both want "just one more". Right now just is not the right time for us.

Man... I'm afraid to click the link (at work), suppose I'll have to wait until I get off, only 24 more minutes.

Heather...

ok I just went through your website..it's beautiful. I think that having a doula is something my DH and I want. He isn't great under pressure and will most likely faint. I think having a doula would be a great stress relief for him and me....i never even thought until I saw your site.

Now we are in IL so that's a problem... but thank you for that wonderful information!!

Everyonce in a while I get these really maternal urges. Where I want a kid so bad. And then I think, hey, I'm 16, don't want to be pregnant anytime soon, or could be, so lets just look at everyone else's kids until we're 25 or so. Ok Megan? :lmao:
