Just had a look on Thomson website, £268 in economy going this Friday, 4 seats left, was over £800 a few weeks ago.

I saw flights yesterday for £310 departing at the end of April, if we had a date for moving I would book.

I saw this - and the one for £289 leaving end April! What a bargain!

It really peeves me off how much more school holiday prices are :sad2:. How do they live with themselves charging almost £1,500 for the same flights in August! (That was the last quote I got from them before they sold out!).

Rant over! ;)

Even cheaper today £248.98 now for this Friday flight. 4 seats left. cases extra.

I'm waiting for Sept/Oct flights to come down, I know I'm in for a long wait - so that The seven dwarf ride and the new Harry Potter will definately be open. Or else I would be tempted with that price.

Great price.

We went on a cheap late deal in 2012 and had a fab time.

Hope someone can take advantage.

£1500 for flights in Aug! We paid just over £1000 with Virgin last Aug and I thought that was a complete rip off, but we had a 3 month old baby with us and needed direct flights!! Hopefully you'll get a much better price than that! :goodvibes

I hope someone gets this. Flight price now £228.98 going on Friday, and 1st April going down too, currently at £368.

The £228 seems to include 20kg of luggage, £20 extra if you want to upgrade to 25kg.

1× Adult£142.32
In-flight meal(s)£0.001×
20kg Check-in Baggage£0.00
Taxes & charges £116.68
Web saving-£30.02
Total price:£228.98

Possible 2% Quidco

Yes, it's called the joys of travelling in school holidays . To be fair, at one point I did see the flights for arond £1,200 pp just after Christmas, for August 2014. We are actually going August 2015, but was just trying to get an idea of prices. The crazy thing is, those flights have sold out while I've been tracking them - there is very little left for August now. So someone is willing to pay those prices.

I am willing to pay a bit more to travel from our local airport but not those prices. I really don't want to drive 3 hours each way to Manc or Glasgow then have to stay overnight etc, but I guess we'll just have to see.

Really wish we could take advantage of the prices Julie is quoting but as they are not school holiday dates, they aren't really comparable to when we will be going .

I understand your rant having just done around 15 years of school holiday trips but I also totally appreciate there is nothing airlines can do about it.
VA has lost over £300million in the past few years and had to sell half the company to Delta.
What would you do if you owned an airline? you can charge £1000+ per seat and fill the planes in summer yet struggle to half fill them at £400 out of season, even have to cut to £228 for the last few seats. They make a loss most of the year and recoup some of the losses in school hols. I really don't know what they can do any different.
There is only one part solution, allow schools different holidays throughout the year but even then they would probably want similar dates to what we have now so no real solution but I can't see anything changing with airlines unfortunately.

Why can't they average out flights so they are at a more stable price throughout the year - that way everyone is paying a fairer price? I don't buy the argument that they must do that so we are subbing their profits in the summer - if they are running at a loss, they need to increase prices throughout the year, not just in school holidays. Appreciate they know they are most probably going to fill a plane during school holidays as opposed to say May when there are no school holidays but surely everyone should pay an average, fairer price!?

Added to this is the fact the Government have brought in the rule of fines for term time holidays, which seems to be actually fanning the flames of prices/demand at peak holidays! Some people are reporting increases in flight prices since this ruling came into force, as while there are lots of parents who won't take children out of school, some who did in the past are actually thinking twice about doing so for fear of the outcome/perceived negativity etc.

Appreciate your point about school holidays and spreading them out. This is problematic especially if you have children at different schools and are a working parent, and for those who work in education and have children at different schools etc.

There is no easy solution but it would be nice to think someone is looking into it - I believe there was a petition sent to Downing Street fairly recently. Probably in the bin by now :rotfl2:!

Anyway, I'm off to see if my Mum will watch the kids for the next few weeks while I bag myself and DH a bargain flight to Orlando! I wish! :rotfl:

They won't level it out as it is the simple rules of supply and demand.

When demand is low they reduce the prices to get customers in the seats - hence the prices Julie is posting.

School holidays are high demand so they will get as much as they can for them. You also have to look at the destination - for example NYC is not nearly as inflated in the school holidays as it is not a "family holiday destination" as such but Orlando etc will be greater because of the type of destination it is.

Unfortunately basic rules of economics will always dictate the pricing of anything ;)

I do know what you are saying and totally understand it but clearly I'd like to live in a fairer world - rose tinted specs for me :rotfl2:. You are right, Orlando flights are worse than any other I have seen for price increases in school holidays . I think this is why I've been so shocked! Perhaps I can persuade the kids to go to Timbuktu on holiday next year instead :lmao:.

If you take an average of the year, say for example £650pp you would not get many flying out of season, they would go elsewhere. The system in place now is the only way they can operate, its a free market where supply and demand fixes the price.
Our relatives were going to pay £1000+ this summer until I told them to hold off a while, they ended up paying £750ish, not too bad.

Its no different to my business, florist. Red roses we stock most of the year almost giving them away, last week I was selling 80cm best quality roses for £6/dozen. selling the last few off at less than cost (£2) or I would have to bin them. Valentines day everyone wants them so we can charge £45/dozen. OK slightly different as they do cost us a lot more for Val day but we still make hay while the sun shines, same as any business in a free market, you just can't possibly legislate and stop it.

The thing is, if people knew the price and it was an averaged price, do you really think they would go elsewhere if it was Orlando they wanted to go to? I don't know. It takes a change in the pricing and mindset of the airline and travel industry to work this way. But quite frankly they couldn't care less about fair pricing could they!

£750 ish isn't too bad - I remember you saying about that - some people are flying indirect for that price - presume the flights are direct? It doesn't help we are so far from the main UK airports! We have committed to going next year now (the children know!) and if it weren't for that, I honestly think the flight prices would put me off! I can't see us going again for this reason really, but it's a special year next year for our family, so it's set in stone!

I love red roses - had black baccara roses as part of my wedding flowers - cost a fortune as it was November, so it was a special shipment! :goodvibes

Yes they are direct into MCO with Thomas Cook.

Many people will go even with an increased price but you get some that won't but the main problem with your average price system is last minute deals, they have to reduce to silly low prices like Julie has posted to attract people to fill the planes, no way would they sell at £650pp to go in 2 days time.
I am no expert in airline management but VA have lost over £300million in the past 4-5 years, I am sure they are looking at all options to turn the losses into profits, I just cant see them cutting prices on dates they sell out.

Hate red roses myself, give me yellow any day.:rotfl2:

7 seats left at £228 for tomorrow

No annual leave left (our hol year starts may) or i'd have been sorely tempted to leave DH and DD to it and go.
