So long story short, was going to surprise my daughter with our trip for her birthday. Just the 3 girls including my sister who planned it with her week timeshare. We booked one night at RPR for the EE and EP, and she purchased the tix thru UT. My daughter was going to miss 2-3 half days of school due to the snow, but figured no biggie they don't do anything anyway. I made sure it was the week after finals when we booked air/tix/hotel/travel.

Today my daughter was telling me her schedule for finals, and its THE WEEK WE GO!!! My heart just ripped apart! Its the 3rd week of June and finals start the morning we leave! That week was supposed to be snow days and they changed it to finals week :( Im just devastated! TO change flights now is SOOO expensive, im sure the same with RPR, and my sister just started a new job so I doubt she will be able to change her time off. Never mind I have no idea how it works with UT tickets.

I don't think anyone can help me, but I didn't know what else to do or where to go. It doesn't help to tell my daughter now, she will probably feel worse than I do right now. And to tell me sister?!?! Any ideas??

I'm so sorry you have had this happen!

I can only respond about RPR. You can change, cancel or amend up to 5 days out, unless you have a package. So you can hopefully cancel that since it's only one night I doubt you have a package.

I hope you can get sorted with something.........

That week was supposed to be snow days and they changed it to finals week

A conversation with the school is in order. It's one thing to make the kids sit in school longer. It's a whole different thing to change finals week.

Hi I have a DD in high school so I completely understand about them changing dates. I would talk to the school and explain how you set this up once you knew the schedule and then they changed it. Explain how difficult it is to change things. Ask if your DD can take the tests before you leave even if it has to be after school or before to get it done. I went through that once a in middle school and they were understanding and accommodated me. I know high school is a little different. I am so sorry this happened I hope you can resolve it:grouphug:... I didn't think tickets even from UT have specific dates until you activate them. The most expensive part would be the air fare and if your sister could change her week.

I agree with the above poster. Talk to the school. They may be able to arrange something considering they changed their schedule.

I think the UT tickets don't have dates. Multi-day tickets usually don't. So sorry to hear about this. That's just rotten for the school to do that. I guess it's in their right though. I think the only concern is airfare change fees and trying to find a time that your sister could go too. RPR is easily canceled 5 days out or more. I guess trying to switch the timeshare could be a problem. We went on vacation one year for a day that was supposed to be a snow makeup day. The school ended up taking a snow day in Texas for a day that wasn't even freezing:sad2: We still pulled him out, but it was only a regular day and he's in elementary school. Good luck!

Can't speak to the tickets you got from UT, but as indicated above you can cancel or change your RPR reservation up to 5 days out. Since it seems to have been one night with no tickets, you likely paid full price in advance so they should be able to credit it back to your card. If you get them on the phone and somebody balks, ask to speak to a manager.

I do suggest that my clients book through Universal (or their agent) and get the cancel anytime for any reason insurance. Yeah, it costs a bit but I've been doing this a long, long time and you really just never know what's going to happen tomorrow, much less weeks or months down the road.

What a bummer! I will say, if the finals are state tests the school may not have any wiggle room. I know our tests must be administered on certain dates and make ups are only offered on certain dates. If the tests are written and administered by the teachers they may be more flexible. I really hope something workks out for you.

I am assuming your daughter is a high school student, not a college student (finals week in June would be late for a college).

And, I am going to say that you are talking about normal high school finals, NOT state tests (again, I am thinking that state tests would be done by June).

So, as a teacher, let me say, yes, of course, your school can let your daughter take her finals early. I would go to the principal and explain the situation.

Thank you everyone for your words of support and encouragement, I have calmed down a little bit. LOL
She is a junior in high school and they are normal HS finals, and she NEVER misses any school unless she is on the floor vomiting or delirious with a fever!!
So I spoke to my daughter about our surprise vacation, and then about what happened with the finals dates. We still do not know when they changed the dates as the calendar is still the same on their website. Im still so upset about this!
After speaking with guidance, she said it would be up to the individual teachers. So far, one of them is understanding and will let her take it the week before. One of them said she could not take it ahead of time, which I kind of get, but its not any different worrying about her telling others about whats on the test from her having over a week to find out what was on the final. Anyway, she is NOT that type of student and would never ask or tell.
So we are down to one more teacher to be able to leave as planned. Keeping fingers crossed!!

Good luck...hope everything works out for you and you all have a wonderful time :goodvibes
