We own a Olympus Camedia C-3000 Zoom. It came with Camedia Master 2.0 software which is currently loaded on our PC which is running Windows XP. We need to download the software onto a new laptop (Windows XP) but can't seem to make it work. We get an error message saying to check that the camera is on the right setting (it is), the camera is plugged in (it is), lower the connection speed (huh?), or change the port settings. Since the first two we know are okay and we have no idea what the third thing is, we tried to check the ports.

We went into "my computer" and tried to set up the camera in there but our camera isn't on the list of models in there. Even putting the software disk in the drive and clicking "have disk" doesn't help.

I know that there are problems with Camedia Master 2.0 and XP which occasionally cause the program to fail on the PC, but we can't even get it to work on the laptop at all. The PC is on it's last legs and we don't want to lose all ability to download pictures off this camera. Any idea of how to make this work on the laptop or if we were able to get a Camedia 2.5 disk would this solve the problem? (and where the heck do we get that because the Olympus site doesn't even have downloads for it.)

I know, this was probably confusing but after fiddling with this for the better part of the day and coming up empty handed, I'm pretty confused myself.

I've had a couple of the Camedia cameras (4040 & 7070) and didn't bother with Olympus software. One nice thing about the Oly's is you can download the pic's without special software. Just treat it like a removable drive.

If you want the software, try the new 4.0 version.

The 3030 is an older camera and may not appear as a MSD (mass storage device) to Windows. If it is, you don't need their software. Just plug it in an look to see if you now have an extra drive letter in Windows explorer.

You could try Camedia 4.0 if you really want to use their software but I would highly recommend just getting a card reader.

I have had 2 Olympus cameras, C-4040 and C-5000. I don't use the Camedia software either. I just use the Microsoft Camera and Scanner Wizard in the accessories on the start menu.

Get a card reader, it's much quicker too.

It looks like we will have to get a card reader but out of curiousity, when you say treat it like a removable drive, how would I go about doing that? When I go to control panel and click on scanners and cameras, it doesn't have a listing for this model. I must be doing something wrong.. is there a way to get the pictures off of the camera with the windows XP software?

Thanks for being patient with me. :)

From Olympus:

USB Auto Connect is a feature that allows an Olympus digital camera to emulate a disk drive when connected to a computer. This feature makes it simple to copy the pictures to your computer by using standard drag-and-drop procedures. There is no need to install drivers (except for Windows 98) since the camera is supported by the operating system. Note: The C-
211/3000/3030 Zoom and C-2100 Ultra Zoom are not USB Auto Connect cameras.
These models use a standard USB driver.

So according to Olympus, you'll need to use their software or get a card reader to download pics.

I recommend getting a card reader. *That* will show up as a removable drive in Windows explorer or "My Computer". No special software is required to install it or use it.

You can then drag and drop the files from that removable drive letter to a location on your hard drive. Just remember to format your card (or erase all pictures) using the camera, not the PC when you're done.

I have a Olympus Camedia something or other, it's my backup, I agree, the software is useless.
Uninstall the Camedia software first then plug the camera in via the USB cable- see if it shows up. If not, card readers are inexpensive and fast. :)

Don't go to Control Panel. Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories and then Scanner and Camera Wizard.
