Olympus Evolt Series

Hello everyone~!
I am new to the photography boards and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this camera... I was looking awhile back to upgrade to an advance point and shot, however I think that I just want to go ahead and make the leap to an entry level DSLR. I am not interested in professional photography, just something as a hobby and to use for my children in their football games and track meets, etc...

Any help you can provide would be much appreciated. Thanks!

All I've read about this camera is very positive. You may want to check over on the Oly boards where there are lots of posts about it. Here is the link.

I'm sure I won't be! I've had my eye on it, but I didn't want to pay 900 or 1000 for it, but this was a good deal and I hadn't ever seen it so inexpensive.

What camera do you have? I will probably upgrade the body after my car is paid off in a year and a half. I have no idea what I'll get, but I'm thinking they'll have the successors to the E3 and the E30 by then.

Lynn -

I have the E3 and DH has a E330.

Just found this thread and enjoying reading through it. I have a E510 and have used it for 2 year now and I have had some wonderful results by using this camera. I am continuing to use and learn though.

Welcome to the DIS Photography Board and the Oly thread!!

I've been VERY guilty of not posting photos on this board. I will try to do better.

From last years trip... w/E1...

I'm a year into using my Oly E510, and I've finally started shooting in RAW (not made the FULL commitment... I'm shooting JPEG and RAW :rotfl:) I'm using Photoshop Elements to work with them, but I really have no idea what I'm doing. How did you learn?

We had a ton of snow (for here) last week. Here's a picture I liked that I took Friday morning:

I only shoot JPEG's. Too lazy and the fact that I only have the Olympus software.

The last time I saw snow like this in the Dallas- Ft. Worth area I was in elementary school. That was in 1978.:rolleyes1 I remember that they not only closed the schools because of the snow but they closed them because of the lack of natural gas. They gas company wanted to make sure their customers did not run out. Now that's OLD!!!

Sounds like you are close to my age. That's not old! I refuse to believe it! I remember when I was in junior high we had a bitter cold snap that lasted about a week (temps never got above freezing), they closed the schools for the same reason. That was in 1982. I've never heard of them doing that since.

Seems like every part of the country is getting hit with record snowfalls. This is the worst I can remember in a long time. At least it makes for great photo opportunities.

Here is one I took after a recent storm

I was over on another Oly board and someone posted this:

http://www.evolve.com.my/

There was lots of speculation as to if this is real or not because the site domain is registered to a Malaysian marketing firm and Oly's only presence in Malaysia is in optics manufacturing for their medical division.

Guess we will see in 11 days :confused3

How is everyone doing? I haven't been using my camera much, just too :cold: out.

Welcome, sellen.

I wonder what Oly's got up their sleeve, Joe?

:cold: is right!!! I think I've taken about 5 photos in the last month. I am going to a Calumet Photo portrait lighting seminar on Saturday so that should be fun.

I believe the PMA show is in a couple of weeks so they may be coming out with something there.

It seems that Olympus is entering into some interesting and challanging times. Has anyone held and played with the new Olympus Pen cameras? They are nice and have a solid feel. The cameras appear lighter than what they actually are.

I was at Calumet Photo on Saturday and they had the E-P1. It is really a nice camera....very compact.

I'm glad that the closest store that sells Olympus E-P1 in the Dallas/ Ft.Worth area is 40 miles from my house. I'm even more thankful that the store is near "Jerryland" and there's tons of construction around it. FYI, "Jerryland" is Jerry Jones new Cowboy Stadium.

I know how you feel. I had the E-30 in one hand and the E-P1 in the other. It was pure agony to not pull the trigger on one or the other.

No new body in my future, maybe some old used glass. I have been intrigued by some of the older OM glass that been showing up on our local Craigslist. I ran across an Olympus 50mm f/1.2 that sold for $50.00. I was in a sales contest at work and finished within the top 5%. I haven't even seen this money, but it's already burning a hole in my pocket. Maybe I'll just buy a nice tripod. Who knows. This will be with my DW permission, I have given up trying to hide things from her. She always finds out!!!

Well I've had my eye on the 50mm f/2 for a few months, since before Christmas. Now when I've decided to pull the trigger on it, I can't find it in stock anywhere! Adorama's been out since around Christmas, and I think B&H has also.

Amazon was out of stock but got a few more in the other day and now they're out again. I don't want to pay more than $450 for it and I can only find it for $500 and more. I just checked Wolf Camera and they have every lens I think Oly makes EXCEPT for the 50mm. J&R is out of stock and they list it as a clearance item.:confused3

I read the dpreview forums and nobody has mentioned it being hard to get. I'm watching a couple on ebay so maybe that's an option, or else I'll just have to wait until Amazon gets more in.

The price has also gone up at some of the sites -- Adorama had it for $404, but now they're $449 although they sell it bundled with a few things for $415 still. But if they don't have it that doesn't help me!

Does anyone know anyplace else I can check out?
