What do you mean, Renysmom? This thread is for ALL Olympus users (maybe I need to change something??)

Would like to start a thread for enthusiasts of the Evolt series who want to swap information and share pictures.

Congrats! Please - post pictures! All are welcome here...

Code and Pea-n-me--Amazing pictures! Code, those are going to cost me some money, though! I really need more than just the kit lenses.

Here are some action shots, taken with the kit zoom this weekend with my camera (I was running Augusta!) Sorry that what I have most of is pictures of my girls. I plan to take a boatload of pics at Disney this December.

just love these cameras

MY E-3 arrived today. Since I have an extra battery for my E-330 I was able to power it right up.. WOW is all I can say.. Lots to learn but the menu system is basically the same so that helps alot.

Here are some of my first shots:

I was not going for composition here. I wanted to see just how well the built in IS would do on the camera. John was driving 65 mph over the 895 bridge.. Not bad, not bad at all

It's nice to see some activity on this thread. I'm glad.

Quicklabs, are you kidding? I LOVE dogs and at one time did agility with my dog Cody, now gone. I have to get up in the attic sometime to find my pictures, I have a ton. So please continue to share! They look great!

tashasmum, very, very nice! You're posting from England, right? I love seeing photos of your country, it's so beautiful. Is that the Eye (I think that's what they call it?) It's beautiful but I don't think I could ever get on it. :scared1: Where is the church? I'm a big James Herriot fan. Welcome.

Looking good, Renysmom. May I ask - you and Code - what it was that made you want to upgrade? Just curious. I'm glad you both decided to stay with Oly and am looking forward to seeing more of your work and hearing about the differences between the cameras.

Quicklabs, great shots! just one quick tip.. I've found that Olympus' multi-segment metering tends to blow bright highlights (like dog fur ;)) in direct sunlight (even the E-3), -0.3 exposure compensation is pretty much standard for me when I'm under the sun unless I am spot metering.. sometimes -0.7.

tashasmum, also great! I've got the 11-22 but your other 2 lenses are definitely on my wish list (50-200 first) How has the E-510 to E-3 transition been?

Renysmom, my jealousy continues :lmao:

Pea-n-Me.. I'll get back to you on that when I have a bit more time for a lengthy answer ;)

Pea-n-me, yes I am in England, the wheel is the one in Manchester and not the London eye, the wheel is straight outside my office window. the church is Wotton Wawen near Stratford-upon-Avon (Shakesphere Country).

Code. the 50-200 is a fantastic lens and I am loving the move from the E510 to E3, don't believe the rubbish that is posted on other forums about difficulties using it and blowing highlights.

a few more

OK, question for you guys who've printed up photos using the Olympus 4:3 cameras. Is there something special you have to do so you don't get heads chopped off? My kids are doing a project and I printed some pictures today and that's what happened. I noticed that Walmart.com had a special box if you're using 4:3 (but I used CVS today, a quickie, and I didn't have time to fool around with it). Thanks for whatever information you have.

ETA it happened with some old pictures taken with other cameras too, so not sure what's going on.

And resultingly, the price of the E-510 w/ 2 lens kit has dropped to $608 on beachcamera.com - now's a good time to buy if anyone's been waiting!!

Just found this thread. Have been researching dSLR's for a few months now and will be picking up the E-510 tomorrow!!

Went to the camera store a few weeks ago intent on looking at the Nikons or Canons. But the guy mentioned the Olympus as well. I was not planning on buying then, needed to wait for Uncle George to send us our stimulus check :thumbsup2, so I had plenty of time to research some more. I liked a lot what I read about the 510. It is perfect for what DW and I want to do with it.

So now we have the $ burning a hole in our pocket and tomorrow is the day. Now I have to go back and read all the posts on this thread.:goodvibes

You'll love the E510, its an ideal travel camera with the benefit of in built IS

are you getting the two kit lens version. They are very good, imho some of the best kit lens available.

Welcome to the Olympus Family, Matt. How did it go today with your new camera? Hope to see some of your pictures soon!

Congrats on the new camera.. My son just bought the 510 and LOVES it.. brat hasn't brought it over yet for me to play with it.

Can't wait to see your pictures

I've purchased the Olympus Evolt 510 today (2 lens kit). I've got SO much to learn. My battery is charging tonight. They sold me the SD card by mistake instead of the XD, so I've got to go back tomorrow to swap it. (I had the XD written on my paper when I went in...but I guess in the excitement of finally making the decision to take the plunge, it slipped by me.)

I'm sure I'll have lots of questions. I'm leaving for Washington, DC on Memorial Day with my daughter and the Honor Society at her school and I'm hoping to be able to understand enough to get some nice shots, although I may be using "Auto" for starters. ;)

Congratulations, Kim, and Welcome to the Family too!

BTW, you can buy a CF card, also. I use a 2GB Extreme CF which I picked up online for around $33.
