Is this the one you were talking about?

Yes, that's the one. Great shot! Thanks for posting it, I really loved it when I saw it.

Spent a day shooting, had a lot of fun. Here are some pics:

Pea-n-Me: you can make that e510 sing! Those shots are great! How much post processing (if any) did you do on them?

And what a great doggie! I'm sure she didn't mind being cold for a bit for art!

Thank you! The only post processing I did was to crop some metal out of the corner of the bird photo.

I don't want to come across as negative, but I'd read so many good reviews for the new mid-priced Olympus DLRs that I bought one (the E-510) for my staff to use at work. It in no way compares to my personal Nikon D50. Everything about the Olympus feels "cheap" compared with the Nikon. Staff members who have never used a DSLR are happy with it, but I'm seriously considering returning it and upgrading.

What you consider cheap feeling, others consider light and portable, which is exactly how Olympus intended it with their designed for digital systems. Light feel is one of the big reasons I chose it myself. The E-420 is even more light and portable. It will be interesting to see how it sells, and which other brands follow suit as they have with other Olympus-pioneered ideas such as Live View.

PS, a reminder - I asked in the OP that this not turn into a camera or brand bashing thread.

I know it's difficult with a sentence such as the Nikon one above ;) but let's let the work speak for itself.

Thanks.

I'm curious to see which additional lens/lenses has anyone added to there E-volt collection. I have the basic 2 lens kit which came with my camera but I feel the need/want/desire/must have for that special lens. While I enjoy my Alpha 100, I still love the compact size of the 410. I realize that I must first learn to get the most the lenses that I already have. It sure would be nice to have a Sigma 30mm or perhaps an Olympus 11-22 or maybe that new little 25mm pancake lens(even though it hasn't been released). Does anyone use the software that came with there Olympus camera? I haven't but was thinking about giving it a try. Anyway I would love to see your replys. Thanks!

Mostly because I really wanted to reduce the need for a flash for all indoor situation on my e-510. I have not had much chance to use it, but so far I am pretty happy. The next one on the list is the 70-200!

Before I found out about Picasa by google I use to the Olympus sofware all the time. Now only for firmware updates. Someday I will buy and take the time to learn PhotoShop.

Can anyone recommend a lens for shooting in low light like on POTC and etc.

Thanks.

I have the evolt 510

I'm loving these pics!
I have only the kit lenses for my E-500. I, too, would be interested in hearing about purchases on others and the reviews on them.
Mckymousefn--Would love to learn the settings you used to capture that amazing sports picture.
Pea-n-Me--great pics with your new camera. Your furbaby is adorable!
Keep 'em coming, everyone!

I think Code mentioned earlier he had an extra lens or two that he enjoys.

I'm still trying to learn how to use the kit lenses as well as learn about lenses in general. I'm sure I'll be getting a prime lens but which one, I don't know yet. I'm interested in the pancake lens, too. Does anyone follow the Olympus SLR Forums at dpreview? They seem to have a lot of Olympus-specific info over there. Just be sure to come back here and share if you find anything good. ;)

I was away for a couple of days and had some neat photo ops, but the weather was absolutely freezing so I didn't get too many. I did pick up another dSLR book to help me figure out what the heck I'm doing. I was playing with so many settings I think I was messing up my pictures, LOL. So I decided to kind of slow down a bit and start from the beginning. Did I mention I bought the DVD also and promptly fell asleep while watching it? Man, this learning curve is rough. :upsidedow

I haven't downloaded the Olympus software yet. I have Canon software on my computer and HP which I use most of the time because it's fairly simple. We have Photoshop but found it really difficult to use. DH was going to take a class one of these days.

DP Review is one of my favorite forums to read. Sometimes it can get old when people tend to gripe back and forth other times it's amusing. I would still like to read more about any accessories ( lenses/flashes/filters etc.) that people have purchased. I been reading about different filters (brands) and everyone seems to have different opinions. There's also a huge difference in prices! Does it really make that big of a difference? I'm planning on buying some but I really have no idea on brand. Just have to keep reading the forums. Thanks

OK, I have a fun depth of field assignment taken from the pages of the Olympus digital school if anyone wants to try it.

http://www.olympusdigitalschool.com...lling_Depth_of_Field__EVOLT_E-510_/index.html

I'd seen this on the Oly website and figured I'd try it some time. But I managed by accident to try it sooner than later when I was shooting the same scene using different settings (thanks for the tip, Andy) and this is what I came up with, completely unintentionally. I'm going to try it again, this time intentionally, but here are the photos which I'm happy to share showing from deep, to shallow DOF.

Hope to see others give it a try and show your photos here!
