Anybody uses Olympus C-8080 8MP Digicam? Kindly post your experience, both good and bad. I'm thinking about replacing my Canon A80 with it.

General info of the camera have been obtained through many of the professional websites, they tend to love the camera immensely. Now I want to hear the 'regular-joe' experiences.

TIA

note to moderators,

kindly move this thread to the appropriate forum for I have made the mistake in putting a pro-sumer camera thread in the budget section. There is nothing 'budget' about this camera.

Thank you.

If the C-8080 is half as good as the old C-4040 that I have, it is a winner. I have had this camera for several years and, as much as I would like a new one, I can't yet justify buying because mine takes great photos (only 3.2 MP but fine for 4X6 and even enlargements aren't bad) and has been trouble-free (knock on wood). It has taken a beating, as I haul it back and forth daily to my teaching job. I have taken thousands of photos. If I were in the market for a new one, I would LOVE to have the
C-8080.

I have an 8080. It is a nice camera. It does a great job on outside photos, but inside with low light it has a problem with focus. I usually take indoor flash pictures on manual, auto focus has a hard time locking. I have prints as large as 13x19 and they are great. The colors are superb.

Go here and search for 8080 and a lot of info will come up. Good luck.

Is it worse (the indoor focusing) than your regular, say, Canon A80 pocket digital camera?

I don't know, I don't own a Canon. It isn't really bad once you get used to it. I would read the site I posted and ask some questions there. That is where I get a lot of my info before I buy digital. Also it is not the fastest focusing for sports, not many non digital SLR are really fast though.

BTW I would go to a camera store and handle it before buying it is NOT a pocket digital camera. It is smaller than my E-10 but larger than my 2020 and my UZI.

Size is not so much of a problem. I'm currently using a Canon Rebel 35mm and a Canon 10D. I've also tried holding the 8080 and I liked it. The only problem is that the battery wasn't installed and I couldn't test the focusing speed.

I've posted the same question at the forum over there, hopefully I can get some good replies.

If its an Olympus, its a good camera :D

We are on our third digital (just kept upgrading) and everyone of them has been an Olympus and we have never had a problem with any one of them.

Search the web for the best prices, I saved over $200 on my last purchase by doing this.

Thanks for the info. However, I don't buy these types of product through web because I can get them virtually at wholesale price.

Try checking out http://www.imaging-resource.com/

My DH is looking at buying a new digicam as well. A friend of ours has the Olympus 8MP - and I like it.. but then, I am fairly easy to please.. I was looking for something fast, that took clean, sharp photos. Although, when he gets the new digicam, I will end up with the old one ;-) (a sony DSC-85)

DH has been doing a lot of research, and I think he ruled out the Olympus -- however it did have one fascinating feature.. it does some kind of shake thing to clean off the ccd/cmos (can't remember which is has) before taking each picture- so you don't get flecks in your pictures. I think it also has a seal around each opening.. it's not watter proof.. but more like spash/rain proof.

He is looking at the Canon 20D .. and a Nikon I think. The other issue is that he wants to be able to change lenses.

I'll show him this thread, and maybe he'll have more to say.. at the very least it will prove to him that i have been listening!

Good luck,
Heather

Got mine several days ago. Updated the firmware to v.75 and it's gRRRRReat!

could we see some pictures with it? Im thinking about upgrading my canon a80 next year.. This sounds like a good way to go. Thanks!

I"ll post some pic on my MSN website soon.
