Olympics

And Chiles has now lost her medal. The inquiry was filed outside the 1 minute time limit, and so the bronze must go to the romanian, says CAS. The problem is, the judges still scored Chiles wrongly. Shouldn't the goal here be to get it absolutely right rather than worrying about weird time limits? I mean, I could understand if it was hours/days later, but I read somewhere that the inquiry was filed something like 4 seconds past the time limit. If it was past the time limit, the judges shouldn't have accepted the inquiry at all. But they did, and everything was handled in good faith at the time, so now, five days later, you strip a medal, as though Chiles dod something wrong? She did nothing wrong. The judges screwed this all up and now she has to pay. SMDH.

I didn't see this event and don't really know much about gymnastics, but it sounds like the officials made such a hash of this. What a shame for the athletes all the way around.

Anyone else going through Olympic withdrawal?

I still have access to some on demand coverage from later on in the games. I watched a little bit of it, but it just loses something knowing the cauldron is dark and the flag has been handed over for 2028. Not a big fan of how they did that, but it is what it is. Anyone else now eagerly awaiting the winter games!??!?

Gymnastics scoring and judging has been a total mess for decades. This one might be one of the worst screwups they've had. I feel for the Romanian woman who was celebrating the bronze with her flag draped over her, when all of a sudden the board changed. I feel just as much for this 'technicality' they found a full 4 days after the event ended to strip the bronze from Chiles. They should just admit they messed up big time and award bronze medals to both and move on. The more they try to fix the judging mess of gymnastics, the worse they seem to make it. And unfortunately, 2 talented hard-working young women with Olympic dreams are in the middle of the latest mess.

Total withdrawal here. It feels especially bad this year because now all we have to look forward to is endless election-related vomit. I no longer "do" football of any sort, so I can't even say, "Well, at least it's football season." I haven't even seen any fall shows that look worth getting excited about. Like you, I still have some replays I want to watch, but it isn't the same. I'm just kind of moping around the house today. My only hope is that Peacock does justice to the broadcast of the Paralympic games in a couple of weeks and that might provide some excitement. But since they usually treat it like the unwanted stepchild, I don't have much hope.

...after witnessing that debacle called the Opening Ceremony, it would not surprise me how uninspiring it possibly may be for the LA 2028 summer Olympics....just a guess....

🤷‍♀️ Maybe they'll elect to go for a celebratory yet laid back, chill Cali vibe? The world needs a palate cleanser after the oddity Paris left everybody wondering about.

....with the ending Olympics ceremony highlighting the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Snoop/Dr. Dre, I'm thinking NO.

Not really sure why you quoted me? I wasn't talking about woke, or the opening ceremony? I was talking about withdrawal.

We're in a similar boat. We used to live for football season, but it just doesn't have the same spark these days. I think the ending is hitting especially hard this time because I'm about to move my older one into college for her freshman year. I had an emotional moment with her when I saw the LA2028 logo and realized that if all goes well, she will have graduated from undergrad by the next summer games. I've been disappointed with the Paralympic coverage for previous games, but we also don't have Peacock. I came close to getting it for the games, but we were traveling for most of July and I didn't know how much we'd get to watch.

It is fun.
This year that game is Aug 18, 7 pm Eastern
NY Yankees vs Detroit Tigers
...I will have to DVR it, as I will be visiting my DS at WDW this week....unless it is on something like Amazon Prime, or other similar venue...

The choice of song for the Red Hot Chili Peppers wasn't so laid back. I don't know if Under the Bridge might have been better since it's a song about addiction, but it's certainly a lot more laid back than the song they chose.

Hah, very cute. Well, the posting did say they were only thinking about retiring that sauce, so obviously it was just a cute PR ploy rather than an actual decision. The "for at least four years" was a nice touch.

All props to both the men's and women's French basketball teams, who sure gave the Americans a run for their money.
