Olympics

I also did not want to see the medal ceremony for the French swimmer and a segment on him. Show me the two American fencers in the finals and their gold medal ceremony. Also stop showing coaches during women's soccer during the run of play.

Lastly, quit telling me it is not fair to the Canadian women's soccer team as the players did not cheat. Their coaches did believe they would benefit from the cheating and the people that is was unfair to were the teams they played against. That is on them for choosing cheating coaches.

Anyone else tired of seeing Tom Cruise get so much publicity at the women's gymnastics competition? Several other To
Tom Cruise, alone, dancing awkwardly at Taylor Swift concert. Tom Cruise silly grinning and clapping at Olympics Women/Girls Gymnastics. The older he gets the creepier he gets.

Him and Snoop.

Snoop is not a spectator, he is hired commentator by NBC for the Olympics, so he will be seen throughout.

Who is saying that? This situation is shocking and embarrassing to us as a nation. :sad1: There’s been no indication that the players knew, yet the consequences are what they are and I haven’t heard one peep from anyone on Canadian coverage trying to shirk them. That coach betrayed the players, our country and the sport. Personally, it would seem that a more fitting outcome to have the team disqualified from competition, but then again, I know nothing of the protocols.

I really don't care which celebrity happens to be in the crowd for the Olympics. A few times they might show the relatives of a contestant which to me makes more sense. Not really into soccer so I have no idea of that supposed cheating scandal.

Apparently they were caught flying a drone over a closed practice of their opponents. At least you can read this article without having to buy a subscription.................LOL.

Yeah. I found myself rooting for France yesterday during the women’s soccer game.

Rumours are swirling this has been going on for years with the women and men’s team. It does make you wonder if some of the players did know. I wouldn’t have been opposed to disqualification. This is a huge blight on Canadian soccer.

Having trouble quoting, but former Canadian players have been reported as stating not to punish the current players as has Julie Foudy. I also would be surprised if at least some of the Canadian players didn't know, but I will give them the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. Regardless the players on the teams they played against are the ones who did not deserve to be punished for playing fairly.

I also think they should have been asked to leave, but then I don't think the Chinese swimmers should not be there either as there are way to many failed drug tests for it to all be tainted food.

Agree, he creeps me out.
Flava Flav has been personally sponsoring the US Women's Water Polo Team after finding out members of the team were quietly working multiple jobs to pay for training and competing even after winning 3 Olympic gold medals.
Classy move on his part, that's really cool of him to do.

From what I've read the spying from Canada (from the U.S. perspective meaning the targets of it) goes back to at least 2019, another instance in 2021. It was known by the U.S. but they did not want to risk poor relations/jeopardize World Cup co-host with Canada and did not report it.

One of the instances was a Canadian staff member who impersonated staff and was then caught and not let through during training at an academy in FL.

The problem is that it has been stated that "Canadian officials suspect the spying has been systemic over years." That means former players were well aware of this happening. Players absolutely would know because the best usage of the film is for the players to watch it to plan around what they see. This isn't like breaking recruiting rules, or financial frauds this is directly related to the players and their training or plans for a particular team during competition. It is one thing to watch them play in a match which is public, it is another to film them practicing to use with players for planning game play.

Sadly we now watch the Olympics and see an athlete perform above and beyond our automatic conclusion is drug enhancers. The Olympics are one of the most corrupt organizations and are long past standing up for what is right, for banning athletes across the board instead of just some countries, especially countries known for cheating. It is not even amateurs, which is what it was founded on.

The IOC will likely form a committee to investigate it for the next 6 months before reaching a decision........LOL.
Six months? Only last week they came down with a decision on the ice skating team medals from the last winter games.

I was annoyed regarding the US flagbearers, well, one of them anyway. My thinking was I'd rather see another athlete who has a great track record but in a sport that doesn't get the spotlight. I suggested something like fencing to my husband. Lo and behold we had a returning champ in women's fencing, who ultimately did defend her title this weekend. Those are the athletes I'd rather see shine on the big stage.

Merchand swam for Arizona St. who won the Mens NCAA swimming title. So there most certainly is a connection with the United States.

The Canadian Federation is responsible for their coaches. I agree with the punishment. If we don't punish the team, then where's the deterrent?

I don't know the specifics of our fencer, but a lot of athletes with early events don't go to the opening ceremonies.

Yeah, that's true. When I had the conversation with my husband I was just randomly naming a sport that doesn't typically get the limelight and I had no idea when fencing competed, or that we had a defending gold medalist. I just would rather salute a champion that isn't a household name with their face plastered everywhere who gets paid millions for their sport already.

The Olympics was a time that happened regularly in the past. Seems the more they've strayed into big $$ spectacle the games have lost their heart. Makes me lose interest.
