Can someone tell me more about Ollivander's. What do they do there? I was surprised to see so many people recommend doing it before getting on FJ.

They take about 20 people at a time into the tiny wand shop show area. There they pick one person and have them try out a few wands (with effects). The right wand eventually chooses the Wizard and the show is over.It is less than 10 mins long. The reason people say do this FIRST is because it only holds 20 people at a time, so the line builds FAST AND STAYS long pretty much all day.Forbidden journey moves alot more people in an hour so the line takes a little longer to build. It is cute show, but not something I would ever wait longer than a few minutes for, and not something I will wait for again

Youtube it. It is a very cute show and very magical to Harry Potter fans. When we went last time we brought along a family that had never been to Disney or Universal before. We went to WDW for 7 days and Universal for 3. Out of the entire vacation, the 22 year old young lady said that being picked at Ollivander's to have the wand choose her was the best part of the entire vacation.

So, to some people it is just a show, to others it is a wonderful and magical experience.

I'm trying so hard not to youtube it so I can be suprised when we get there !!! (Very tempted to go take a little peak though...;))

If you're stuck in a line for Ollivander's, you're staring at walls and other guests and seeing excitement go past you.

If you're stuck in a line at Forbidden Journey, you're inside the castle which has neat things to look at. :)

Ive read this as well. additionally, the line for Ollivanders is outside and unshaded at times so you may want to go in the morning when it's not as hot.

We were there for 4 days 4/2 - 4/5 staying at HRH. On our early day to enter IOA at 6:45AM (lined up at 6:25AM) this was our destination. Our 14 and 12 yo sons managed to be the first in line at Olivander's, we showed up with their younger brother (9) after a brisk walk to the que.

Needless to say, when their little brother Casey was chosen as we were the 1st to enter the shop on this day, it made theirs and his vacation. We loved it but had planned how to visit it with minimal wait. And, yes, a wand chose our youngest wizard and we bought the wand. Enjoy your trip!

I have a post about our trip to the WWofHP posted on this site. Might be helpful.

This will be my third trip to IOA this year and I have yet to do Ollivander's (the line was always too long). I'm determined to get it done first thing in the morning! Do they only choose children or big kids too? (like 27 year olds lol) :)

They chose the 22 year old girl that was with us.

I got chosen as did my friend and we are both adults.:thumbsup2

DH and I went to this when we visited in November. It was neat and very cool to watch, but I'll probably be okay if I don't go again. If we had children, we might want to go again, but the line can get ridiculously long for a 5 minute show.

The girl that was chosen from our group had on a wizard's robe and had red hair, so from behind she looked like a Weasley:

Are you a HP fan? If you are IMO it's a must do. If you aren't, and you're on a tight schedule you could skip it. It's a little 5-10 minute show that replicates Harry getting his wand, they choose an audience member to have "a wand choose them" just like in the movie. Our very first evening we were the last showing for the day and our 7 year old daughter was chosen, of course this was one of the highlights of our trip, she was very impressed by the whole thing.;)

If you're with a group of young adults/adults that aren't huge fans and mainly want to ride the popular rides you can just look through the wand shop.

Its amazing!

Im a massive fan of the films and the books and I got chosen and got my wand which sits proudly on a shelf in my bedroom. Was one of the best days ever! Great experience for all involved, especially if youre lucky like me and get chosen!

My sister was chosen when she went. She was 22 at the time and had her Gryffindor shirt on. It was the highlight of her trip as she is a huge HP fan and has been since she was a little girl.
We haven't been yet, but plan to try first thing in the morning on this upcoming trip. The kids will really enjoy it I'm sure.

I'm working on Ascendio, the next Harry Potter fancon taking place at Universal Orlando in July, and on July 12, we're hosting Night of a Thousand Wizards 2, a private event at the WWOHP until 1 AM - so like at our 2010 event, Infinitus, the lines for things like Ollivander's will be much shorter than during the day, and since our event will be mostly grownups (with some older teens) it won't be just kids who get to go through the wand choosing experience.

I read somewhere that they sold plastic wands in the Ollivander's store for the younger kids who aren't old enough for the $30 ones? I figured that my brother could get one since he is not too careful when it comes to fragile things like the wands at Ollivanders, and I wanted to know if they did sell them and if it lights up like the ones you can get around Halloween time.

Thank you!

We've been there three times (all since Wizarding World opened), and I've never seen anything but the $30 wands. Nor have I seen anything that lit up that looks like a HP wand.

If he's that young, maybe you can find a true wooden wand that looks like a HP wand?

I haven't seen any cheaper wands either.

And by the way, I mean find a wooden wand elsewhere. We got a beautiful wand at a Ren Faire one year, just gorgeous, and so inexpensive. I think it looks more "real" as a wizard's wand than the resin things sold at Wizarding World, but alas, DS and DH disagree! :)
