Olivia's Takout?

Hi everyone!

The latest issue of Vacation Magic indicated that Goods to Go no longer has menu items from Olivia's, due to quality control. Goods to Go used to be the place to get takeout items from Olivia's. I'm wondering, can you get takeout at all anymore or is it gone completely?

Thanks!

I am assuming that Olivia's take out is gone, at least for now. :( If enough folks complain, they may re-instate it. However, I'm thinking, although the article said quality control, that it has more to do with folks wanting to use "Counter Service" dining plan credits at Goods to Go to get Olivia's food, since the dining plan for DVC folks will start in April.

Anything on the Good's Food To Go menu is available as takeout, but they no longer offer any of the items from the Olivia's menu. No more Chef Salads.

That's a VERY unfortunate development, in my book. When DS was an infant and we didn't want to tussle with a restaurant, we'd get Olivia's takeout. Goods to Go is NOT a real meal.

I plan to register my complaints if they won't let me take food to go from Olivia's. Actually, I've really never heard of a restaurant that won't allow takeout food.

The current policy only involves Good's Food To Go. I'm sure you can still order at Olivia's and take home any leftovers from your meal. In the past, items from Olivia's menu could be ordered at Good's for takeout and that is the only thing affected by the recent changes. I'd agree, you cannot get a full meal at Good's, it is even more of a snack bar than it used to be.

The possible issue with the DP seems like it would be very likely the reason. If that's the case, I wonder if they'll at least let you order your meals at Olivia's for takeout, but make you use a TS credit. I'll bet some parents would agree to this (don't know how many, but some).

Not true Doc. I just returned from OKW and no food is allowed to be ordered from Olivias as To Go food. I went inside Olivias to order food to go. I planned on waiting for the food and was told that they no longer do this. I talked to the second in command in the kitchen to voice my displeasure. He agreed totally and said that were would be some discussion about this. What restaurant doesn't want to go orders? I've owned three restaurants and went out of my way to get to go orders. You are maximizing your business this way. Why turn away business of any kind? They lost my business because I went off site to order. They will obviosly still box uneaten foods at the end of the meal but this is all. I even asked what would stop someone from coming in ordering and then saying they had to go and to please box up the food? They said it could be done but everyone would have to be there. No matter how hard I begged they wouldn't do this for me. Very dissapointing considering OKW doesn't have room service. Lets voice our displeasure with this new policy. Also while we are at it, Beaches and Cream at BC/YC no longer serves to go food from the to go side until 6:00 p.m. This means in order to get lunch you must order from Hurricane Hannahs or walk all the way over to the store. Another bad decision IMO. I was however allowed to beg my way into going in and sitting at the counter and ordering food to go. I told them the truth, my wife is a vegetarian and she wanted a veggie burger. That is the only place to get it. What's up with the new rules?

It's got to be the dining plan. Trying to keep people from using CS credits at TS restaurants.

Last week, they definitely provided a box to place my leftovers in and I definitely carried it out of the restaurant and back to my room. I did not order it as "To Go", but was able to take the entire meal with me when I left the restaurant without issue. Maybe it's all in how you ask them at the restaurant.

Of course they offered a box for LEFTOVERS. What would they say "no you can't take your food with you"? I'm not sure what you mean by "it's all how you ask them"? :confused3 I asked nicely, spoke with several people and clearly stated what I wanted to do. I told them I have a 4 year year old who doesn't do well with sitting in the restaurant, nothing worked. Seems we were there at the same time, we should have gotten together for a drink. I hope others understand the difference in what we are saying here. They no longer accept to go orders; dine in customers will be provided with to go boxes. You cannot call from your room, place an order and then walk over and pick it up. You also cannot go over there order say 3 dinners and tell them to put it in to go boxes to take back to your room. Are we confusing everyone or do you guys understand the difference in what we are saying?

Yes, you're talking about the difference between "take out orders" and "doggy bags." It does seem silly to not allow food specifically ordered as take out vs. leftovers in a doggy bag at Olivia's. I still think it has something to do with the upcoming dining plan and CS vs. TS credits. Although, anyone ordering AT Olivia's should certainly expect to use a TS credit. I do see the confusion if they allowed Olivia's food to be ordered at Good's...common sense would dictate that ordering from the Olivia's menu at Goods would not be eligible for a CS credit, but there are those folks that would demand it, and not allowing it avoids a sure confrontation in the future.

Since you said "Entire meal", I'm wondering if you used this scenaro, and if not, if it would work. Everyone who wants "to go" food, goes into the resturaunt, is seated, and orders. Then as soon as the meal comes, they say they must leave and ask for their meal to be put in a "doggy bag" (or whatever you call it). I guess someone would have to wait to take their dessert order out. This way, Disney gets their TS credit, and the guests get their food. I think this new change at B&C stinks, too, but I'll bet it's all in Disney's attempt to be sure that the only way people get B&C food is by using TS credit. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'll bet for lots of people it's about convenience-eating in their room at that time is much more convenient than hauling the whole family in to a resturant. So maybe Disney should specify "take-out from a TS resturaunt will still count as TS for the DP."

Thanks for noticing! ;)

That's exactly what was done in my case. I was seated in a booth, placed my order for two meals- explaining that I would need to take the order with me- and drank a beer while waiting for my server to bring the order. I never used the words "To Go" , but merely placed an order just like any of the other patrons at the restaurant. There was never any question about what I was doing and there was no hesitation on the part of my server (who also received a nice gratuity for his efforts). I also got the 20% discount for using the DDE - on both the meals and the beer! :)

Sorry Doc, I was confused with your post. That scenario was just what I tried to do. I even said "I'll just sit and have a beer while I wait." I wonder why I was turned down? :confused3 I certainly wasn't pushy about it and even offered an explanation about why I needed to do it this way. This is really a big part of the problem with WDW and DVC. Why make a rule if it is not enforced or used the same way each time? I was told absolutely not, while you were served. Thanks for the update, I'll try your exact tactic next time.

I have to say, with so few dining options at OKW, this is a BIG PROBLEM for me. When you have little kids, sometimes you want real food but can't actually sit down to eat it in a restaurant!

Shame, shame on DVC. They know this better than most!

I'll be complaining loud and long. It's a STUPID rule that needs changing ASAP.

I don't think DVC actually operates the concessions at OKW. I think they are operated by the same Disney corporate entity that operates the restaurants all Disney resorts.

I totally agree. I will also be following up with a complaint. WebmasterDoc had some luck while I was denied. Maybe he was there right at the beginning of the rule change and his order caused the clamp down. :confused3 I tried his exact route and was told in no uncertain terms, NO. Thanks for the post. How many fried foods can a person eat?

DAVE

While I wouldn't want to order food from the ASFood court and go eat in my ASroom, I think I would like to be able to do this at a DVC resort because it would be "my home away from home". I hope this rule is changed.
And sorry that you were turned down, Dave. I think the rule should apply to everyone or not at all.
