Olivia's banana bread french toast?- I found it and this is disgusting!

This thread is really funny to me, arguing over the semantics of what banana bread is.

Anyway, anyone want some cake toast that I made today?

Whatever they do...they better not touch my Ohana bread pudding or I will riot!!!!!
I would do the same if I ever visit WDW again which is unlikely now that Genie+ has replaced the good old FastPass. Luckily we got our 10 trips in before costs skyrocketed along with the crowds.

I agree with that when you use regular bread, that they are close. French toast doesn't have the custard, just an egg wash. But I believe the menu item that we were talking about actually used banana bread and treated it like french toast.

It depends how a person makes french toast. I'd never eaten any made like you describe until my FIL made some once with a milk egg wash. I make it more custardy, similar to what DLgal said--egg, milk, sugar, a bit of salt, vanilla and freshly ground nutmeg. The nutmeg and vanilla really make it yummy, IMO.

Most probably just dip bread in the egg mixture. I do that but spoon more of the egg mix atop the bread as the first side fries golden brown. Not so much after turning the slice.

Must be made with good crusty bread, not spongy white junk like Wonder bread.

Better still is scrapple made with the broth and meaty bits from simmering your Thanksgiving turkey carcass for a few hours. Fry slices in butter and top with real maple syrup.

Gimme that, and y'all can have any old french toast. YUM!

YES!

My recipe is eggs (like 1 egg per 2 slices of bread is the formula I use), HALF AND HALF (not milk), cinnamon, nutmeg, some simple syrup or maple syrup, and a lot of vanilla.

I use week old Sourdough bread that I've kept in the refrigerator. I soak the bread real good, then fry in butter. Its creamy inside, like custard. My kids like Brioche bread. Gotta be careful with that because you can't let it soak too much.[/QUOTE]

Not many of us discerning folks, huh? 😉

I once helped do some housework shortly after Thanksgiving for an elderly woman whose grandkids I'd babysit when they visited.

She wanted me to make this scrapple for her. I'd never heard of making it with turkey, had never eaten any scrapple for that matter.

I'm grateful these many years later that she taught me how. It's yummylicious.

It's was a big thing in Southeast PA where I grew up.

Made with turkey?

Yeah, I know scrapple is a big deal in that part of the country but thought it traditionally made from pork. Haven't had much of that sort and very much prefer my turkey scrapple.

We never concerned ourselves too much what meat might be in it. :p

I mean.. to be fair I haven't tried either of these.

But I love bread pudding, so chances are I'd go for the second one.

I go to Olivia's for the Southernmost Fried Chicken anyway.

Three big slices we were served. Enough for me and my husband. One good sized muffin wouldn't cut it. But maybe that was Disney seen and greed kicked in. Kinda like the Big Ohana that used to be served at Kona for breakfast, but got cut out. 🤔
It's not on the menu but you can still get The Big Kahuna. It costs twice what it used to and there's less macadamia nut pancake but you can still get it no problem. (At the Kona Cafe) 1688154100749.png

Olivia's has definitely gone down hill though. There are still some good things but the menu got downsized for Covid and never came back. Very little choice compared to what they used to have.

Oh I wish I would have known this when I ate at Kona recently! Those macadamia nut pancakes are amazing, but I can only eat so much of a pancake and I would have loved the rest of those items.

How much is the Big Kahuna now?

DH has lost interest in dining at Olivia's ever since they took the Duval Burger off the (lunch) menu.

I always feel weird about ordering an off menu item. Are the waiters weird about it or do they know exactly what you mean? DH loves the platter.
