Olivia's 3rd Birthday Extravaganza! DDxP,BBB and PP!Oh my! Our 12/10 TR! **Finished**

When I last left off, it was about 12:45am and I had just fallen asleep and was getting ready for an early wake up!

Date: Monday December 6, 2010

At 6:30 my alarm starting blasting it's unwelcome tunes to wake me up! I was still completely exhausted, but then I realized, hey, I'M IN DISNEY WORLD!!!!!!! I quickly turned off the alarm so Olivia and Toby could sleep a bit longer (and be out of my way while I got ready) and hopped out of bed.

*Let me just say, that if I wouldn't have known better, I would have thought that I had committed some horrendous crime and my punishment was sharing a bed with Olivia! Seriously, she is all over the bed, kicking me, pressing her feet into my kidneys, laying on top of me, twisting the blankets in to knots....it was a horrible nights sleep!*

I got myself ready pretty quickly and dressed nice and warm (I think the high this day was in the low 50s or upper 40s), and made my way to the beds to wake up my troops. I started with Toby first because I knew he is much harder to wake up, and would take longer to get ready. He mumbled some not so nice things at me under his breath, but got up pretty quickly nonetheless. After he was up and mobile, I went to Olivia and gently rubbed her back and she popped right up in bed and asked if we would see Mickey again today!

While Toby took a shower I got Olivia all ready and dressed for the chilly weather and then turned on the TV for her to watch while I finished getting ready. I took everything that was charging off the chargers (iPod, phone, camera battery, video camera battery, and laptop) and packed the phones, cameras and iPod into our park bag. Toby got ready pretty quickly, and with one final check of the room, we were out of the room at 7:10.

We made our way to Everything POP and filled up our mugs, then headed out in the cold to the buses. Just as we were walking up, a MK bus arrived! Yeah! We were on the bus and on our way at 7:17. I was hoping that since it was so early (and that we were the only ones on the bus), that we would be able to go right to the Poly, but no such luck, to the MK it was. After we got off the bus, we headed right to the monorail and hopped in a totally empty car and started on our way to the Poly, for a breakfast treat I had been dreaming about!

Now, if only things had continued to go so smoothly.... This would be the start of our monorail woes for the week. We went to the CR and picked up a few people and then to the TTC, picked up a few people, then it was on the way to our stop at the Poly. This is where things started to go bad. We stopped about 200 feet from the TTC stop and sat for a while. The announcement came on saying sorry for the delay, we have technical difficulties, blah, blah, blah. By now it was about 7:40 and we had 7:45 ADRs at Kona Cafe. Grrr! So we sit. And sit. And sit some more. We keep getting the annoying technical difficulties speech, as I watch our ADR time come and go. At some point on the the monorail ride from you know where I snapped a couple of pictures of Olivia

FINALLY at 7:55 we start moving!!! Yeah!!! The relief was only temporary, we were moving, but at about 3mph! At this point, I had given up being mad (where was that going to get me), and just had to laugh! Even Olivia commented on how slow we were going. We finally pulled in to the Poly just before 8:00 and darted inside to Kona. I went right to the check in line while Toby got Olivia out of her stroller and out of her coat. There were about 3-4 people in front of me in line, but it seemed to be moving quickly. Olivia and Toby kept themselves entertained by looking at the lobby from above

As soon as it was my turn I profusely apologized for being late, and then thankfully we were seated right away! I didn't even need a menu, I knew what I wanted! Toby on the other hand needed to look. I figured we would just share with Olivia for breakfast since it is literally a battle to even get her to eat breakfast at home. After a few minutes Toby was finally ready. I ordered TONGA TOAST and a diet coke, and he ordered steak and eggs and a coke.

*Another side note. This is about the point in the trip where Toby made it his mission to take every food pic that he could. It got to be quite comical after a while! This is coming from the man who made fun of meal less than 24 hours earlier for taking food pics!*

Our food came out pretty quickly-yeah!

(I told you he became obsessed! He took a picture of EVERYTHING that was brought to the table from here on out)!

So, what did we think?

Toby really enjoyed his meal immensely and said he would order it again in a heartbeat. He said the steak was cooked perfectly, the eggs were just right (not too dry and not too runny). Olivia ate some of his eggs and biscuit (eggs are pretty much the only thing I can get her to eat for breakfast), and she said they were "deeeelicious"! My Tonga toast came with a side bacon (I ordered it for Olivia since she could probably eat her body weight in bacon if I let her), and once again the verdict was "deeeeelicious". I also shared my toast with her and she didn't like it at all! I, on the other hand thought it was YUMMY! There was the perfect combination of bread/banana/cinnamon sugar and it sure hit the spot. I was not a big fan of the strawberry sauce on the top, I thought that made it too sweet. It was really good on its own, but all mixed together it was too much for me.

I took Olivia to the bathroom while Toby settled the bill. It was $35.52 and we tipped $6.00

Overall impressions: We would definitely come back and eat breakfast at Kona! The service was really good, and the food was delicious!

By the time we were done, it was 8:45 and we bundled back up and hopped back on the dreaded monorail for a (hopefully) quick trip to the MK!

Up next: Our
princess:

TONGA TOAST!!!!!:love: I want some right now! We love Kona Cafe so much. I'm glad yall had a great breakfast there!

I think I might have been drooling while I was writing this update! It was just so good! We did have a really nice breakfast! It the perfect way to start the day!

Ugh, sorry about getting stuck on the monorail! :headache: It's always so stressful when you're trying to make an ADR and something is standing in your way!

We tried Kona for breakfast this trip for the first time and we ordered pretty much the exact same thing ya'll got! :rotfl: I LOVE the Tonga Toast! I actually really liked the strawberry sauce, though. Okay, I have to stop talking about it because I want more right now!

Holy monorail fiasco batman! :scared: This was the day we too went to Kona, but for dinner. Your experience went much smoother than ours...... ;)

I'll have to wait until home to see your pics but too funny Toby suddenly takes a gazillion food pictures! Please don't flame me but.... Tonga Toast looks yucky to me. Which is bizarre because I love a good peanut butter and banana sandwich! :confused3

I haven't tried Tonga Toast or Kona yet but it looks good!!! I will have to get it in next trip

The Tonga Toast looks good! :) I'm looking forward to trying it on our next trip. They seemed to be having a lot of monorail issues when we were there too. Thankfully we never got stuck in one. I'm glad you eventually made it to your ADR and I hope you made it to MK without too much trouble!

I wish I could say that was the last of our monorail woes...but it was far from it! Let's just say that if I had been staying at a monorail resort that week I would not have been happy!

How funny that we got pretty much the same thing! :rotfl: I did really like the strawberry sauce...just not on the Tonga toast..lol Every time I write a food post I end up really hungry...I wonder why?!

Fiasco is the perfect word! It was actually the word of the week when it came to the monorail! Sorry to hear your dinner was not smooth! I guess I have to wait for you to get to that on your TR!

It was so funny that he became obsessed with the food pics! I was laughing so hard at one of our later meals because he had to get everything juuuust right on the plate! OK, so, no flaming from me...but....you don't know what you are missing! There, I will leave it at that! :rotfl2:

You should definitely go! (Didn't you have an ADR there before you changed your dates?...) We are planning on going back!

I have never had this many issues with the monorail before! It was pretty nuts! I think I would have been really upset if we had stayed at a monorail resort this trip! People complain about the buses a lot, but we really have never had bus trouble, at least nothing compared to the monorail troubles.

I hate getting stuck on the monorail...its happened to us a few times, but never kept us from getting to a ressie or anything. Glad you got seated right away too:thumbsup2
We have never eaten at Kona, but make a trip to Ohana's for breakfast every trip. Delicious:cloud9: Looks like your meal was delicious too:)

OMG I would have been in panic mode, stuck on the monorail like that! It seems like every time I'm on it, it stops at least once with technical difficulties...they really need to figure those things out, they need an upgrade!

Kona breakfast sounds great! I've had dinner there before and loved it, but never breakfast, I might have to give it a try on my next trip! I want to try the Tonga Toast, but I don't really like bananas, do you think they are very overpowering? I also want to try those macadamia nut pancakes, yum!:thumbsup2

Sorry to hear about your monorail woes. We had a couple issues, but nothing too bad during our stay.

Great trip report. So did you daughter get lots of extra attention with her birthday button? Our son will turn 3 on our trip too. Is that the button they give you or did you make that? Did you put her birthday on any of your ADRs and if so what did they do for it?

yay great update!!!

I tried the Tonga Toast once and was not a fan so the next time I went to Kona, I got the pancakes which I enjoyed much better!! TT is sooo sweet! Glad to see you made it fine!

CAN'T WAIT FOR THE BBB UPDATE!!!!!!!!!
..hm, I wonder why?! haha

The same exact thing happened to us when we ate at Kona...stuck on the monorail! Thank Goodness it's a short run from the monorail station to Kona and the Kona staff is so understanding because I bet that happens frequently!

Breakfast looks yummy! (my kinda girl ordering a soda with breakfast!)

Loving your TR and all the pics! I am taking my DD - who is 3 - in a little less than 2 months and I am so excited! It is such a fun age to bring them there!

We went to 'Ohana this trip as well! We ate 3 of our 14 meals at the Poly! I just LOVE the whole atmosphere of the hotel!

I vote for a monorail upgrade too! Like I said, this wasn't even the worst time!

I say try the Tonga Toast!!! The bananas are only in the middle of that HUGE slab of bread, so you could just pull them out if you wanted. Bananas are not my favorite fruit, but I don't dislike them. I didn't find them to be too overpowering at all. So, how is that explanation? Clear as mud?! As for the macadamia nut pancakes, you couldn't get me within 50 feet of them! I loathe macadamia nuts!

Sorry to hear about your monorail woes. We had a couple issues, but nothing too bad during our stay.

Glad you didn't really have any issues-especially since you were staying at a monorail resort!!!

:welcome: I would say that with the button (she wore it all week) she got TONS of birthday wishes from CMs, we got to sit front row of the FotLK show at AK, and she got a cupcake at all but 3 meals! They gave us the button and I had brought along the stickers to add her name and the number 3. Lots of the CMs also commented on the way I made her button, and said they notice even more when people add to the buttons. I did add her birthday to all of our ADRs, and she got something (cupcake, ice cream sundae) at all but Kona Cafe and Planet Hollywood. I would say add it to your ADRs and celebrate for your whole trip!

The Tonga Toast was definitely sweet! There was no way I could finish it all, especially with the strawberry sauce!

I can't wait to do the BBB update either!!!! There are SO many pictures I will have to do multiple updates and bore all of my readers with the pictures! All I can say, is that I wish you still worked there!....

I really do think they must have people late all the time because of the monorail! I had barely got the word monorail out of my mouth before she said "that's fine"!

What do you mean? Is there anything else to order with breakfast? I might occasionally have a glass of OJ (with my soda of course), but honestly, what else would you order? :confused3

:welcome: Glad you joined in! I'm glad you like pics...there sure are a lot of them! :rotfl: Yeah for your trip! I'm sure you will have a fantastic time! This age is really great for the parks! Olivia has been going since I was pregnant with her and we try to go about once a month or so. Each visit is amazing and we always find new things to do. I am actually in the process of planning a little 4 day trip in February! I am going through withdrawals since we haven't been since December!

Well don't order tea at WDW. It's highly confusing to the servers LOL! One, if the North, if you say "tea" you mean hot tea. No need to say the "hot". In the South, they think you mean iced/sweet. But you say "hot tea" in Florida and people think you've lost your mind. Why would you be drinking something HOT in Florida :rotfl2:

So are those scrapbooking letter stickers that you added to the button or is it one large sticker? Is the white part where you put it part of the actual button or something you put on there? Just trying to figure out what to make ahead of time. Thanks so much.

Yep, they are just scrapbooking stickers (I think those actually came out of a Disney pack I had). I added them right to the button on that white part (this is usually where the cast members write the birthday persons name). All you should have to bring is the letter stickers! Hope that helps! If you have any other questions feel free to ask!!!

so sorry about the monorail stopping. i am like you and would have gotten mad and anxious. when in reality I know being a little late to an ADR isn't a big deal, heck we were almost 30 minutes late to our O'hana one and were still seated quickly. But i still stress out over it. :lmao:

looks like a delicious breakfast at Kona, i have it on our maybe list for October- have you done lunch there ever? I've done breakfast once and enjoyed it.

lol at Toby getting into the food pics! too funny! :lmao:
