Can anyone tell me if they still have the OLE' fISHING hOLE for children at Port Orleans Riverside. If they do can you give me some info on it. Time, days, prices. I do know it is a catch and release program for children.
I know that they still have it. I think it was $10 for the rental of the pole. I haven't been there in several years so of course the price may have gone up but they had it last summer when we went to the food court.
Hello. We just got back from a WDW visit and we visited Riverside to take the kids fishing. When we were there, the pond was open from early each morning until 3pm. It was $8 for a cane pole with worms for a half-hour. There was also a "family special" for about $20 (approx) which included 4 poles and supplies for an hour or so.
My kids had a ball and each caught a few of the little fish, which you can throw right back in (after taking a quick picture). The gentleman at the rental shack warned us that sometimes they simply don't bite, but we were lucky.
The pool is just a few feet away so we had a nice swim after fishing. Those worms sure were wiggly so I also had a frozen pina colada.
I think the fishing was every day. I cannot swear to it, but I think so. No advance reservations required. There is a little shack right there with a cm in it, just like renting little boats on the lakes. I would imagine they stay open unless the weather is really bad... Also, the man told me the fishing is better in the morning. Evidently they are fussy and sometimes they bite and sometimes not. He said they have a biologist who checks the pond and the fish periodically. If they are not happy, they don't eat (unlike myself...) In our half-hour, my kids each caught 4 or 5 fish, but those wiggly worms really are icky... Also beware of hooking: the dock below you, the green, stringy algae, and each other... we did all of these
Be warned that this is no major production. It is a tiny pond with a deck above it. You can see the fish down in the water and the pole is a simple bamboo cane with a hook and a cork bobber on it. I thought this was great because I wouldn't know how to work a fancy fishing pole.. any dummy can do this. The kids thought it was cool.
thank for all of the info. It does not matter that it is not a major production. The kids fish down here in the canals all of the time. Since there are more girl things to do, I thought the boys would like this. I tried to get them on the Priates Cruise but it was booked. So I hope this will help.
