Older Kindle Model $89 on Black Friday

I read the comments on that link but am I giving up anything major for getting this Kindle over the one they have for $139?

I think this is the $139 version on sale for $89.

I don't think the $139 version has 3g access - I think you need to hit a wireless hotspot to download material??

According to DailyCheapReads, it's supposed to be the 2nd generation kindle - it holds @1500 books, and should keep a charge (network off) for a week. The new screen is supposed to be 50% brighter, holds 3500 books, and can last for a month (network off) without a charge.

Great price.

Thank you everyone. I don't see me keeping 3500 books on a Kindle.

Then definitely try to get this one - if you want a Kindle. I've had it since February 2009 and it's survived heavy duty daily use and is still going strong.

There is some discussion as to which model will be on sale.

Either model is a deal at $89.

I have the 2nd generation Kindle (the K2 in Kindle speak). This model only allows downloading books in the US and uses 3G technology to wirelessly download books. There is no charge for the cell service, as Amazon has included that in the price of the book.

There is also a Kindle International (K2i) with the same general features, but it's able to download books in other countries.

The newest generation of Kindle (K3) comes in two models. One model only has wifi...meaning that you need to be in a wifi hot spot to download books. The other model has wifi and 3G.

The K3 is smaller, lighter and is supposed to have better contrast. I'm probably not the best judge, but side by side, I didnt see a big difference. Other's might.

What I can tell you about the K3 is that the buttons are much smaller and, in my opinion, awkwardly placed.

I considered upgrading to the K3...but I dont care for the ergonomics at all.

I'm very pleased with my K2.

Good luck.

I read about this deal on the books on the knob blog. There is a link that goes to the Kindle that's supposed to be on sale. If that link is correct, the version that will be on sale is the global version that works internationally. I currently have the US version so if the global version can be purchased for $89, this is definately a good buy.

No, I believe the one you purchased yesterday is the newest K3 model that is smaller in size and uses the new type of ink to which Kevin referred. It also has both 3G and Wi-Fi capabilities. The one on sale tomorrow is 3G only.

ok thank you. I really do not know much about kindles and honestly didnt do much research before I purchased it for my brother. I probably should have.

just yesterday I purchased this kindle on amazon for my brother for xmas. is this the same version that will be 89 dollars on friday?

There is still some question as to which model will be $89 and how many will be available.

If you find that the one you ordered is on sale, or you decide that the one on sale is a better value, Amazon customer service is super.

I would just call and explain the situation. If it's the same model, they will probably just credit the difference. As they have a 30 day money back guarantee, they wont want to go through the hassle of shipping you one, having your receive it and sending it back.

At this point....it's a lot of speculation.

thank you for the extra information. I would think for $89 regardless of the version it probably will sell out quickly.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Don't tell anyone! We need to keep this quiet so we can all get one! ;)

You might've said something sooner!!!! I just ordered the wife a K3! LOL! :)

I know nothing about the Kindle. She said she wanted one, so I went onto Amazon, clicked on the picture of the Kindle, and ordered. Can you tell I don't shop much?
