There is some discussion as to which model will be on sale.
Either model is a deal at $89.
I have the 2nd generation Kindle (the K2 in Kindle speak). This model only allows downloading books in the US and uses 3G technology to wirelessly download books. There is no charge for the cell service, as
Amazon has included that in the price of the book.
There is also a Kindle International (K2i) with the same general features, but it's able to download books in other countries.
The newest generation of Kindle (K3) comes in two models. One model only has wifi...meaning that you need to be in a wifi hot spot to download books. The other model has wifi and 3G.
The K3 is smaller, lighter and is supposed to have better contrast. I'm probably not the best judge, but side by side, I didnt see a big difference. Other's might.
What I can tell you about the K3 is that the buttons are much smaller and, in my opinion, awkwardly placed.
I considered upgrading to the K3...but I dont care for the ergonomics at all.
I'm very pleased with my K2.
Good luck.
