Older Children Eating off Kid's Menu

Are there any full service restaurants that will allow a child to order off the kid's menu if they are older (one 12 and one 16)?

Both of my kiddos do not like most of the choices on the adult menus and it would be so much easier if they are allowed to order from the kid's menu.

I understand at BB they can order off the kid's menu but we will be charged 2xs the price listed on the kid's menu to do so. I also know that at buffets they are charged the adult price and I am also fine with that. Just trying to figure out my options and how it all works if they don't want the adult menu. At WDW they were always allowed to order from the kid's menu - unless a buffet - and were always charged the price on the kid's menu so this is all new to us.

Your 12-year old should be no problem, but your 16-year old may not have enough to eat. My 12 -year old's appetite is starting to get too big for kid's meals. You can order kids food in adult portions for one or both kids.

My youngest ate of the kids menu til she was about 17. She is 22, and on a rare occasion, she still will. (She is not an adventurous diner, and has Asperger's, so can be fun.) We have not had any Disney or DTD restaurant say no. They simply make an adult size portion. It is a comfort for her to be able to not have to keep pouring over the menu looking for the least objectionable item. She has even done it at the Jazz kitchen. (She was 20 then.) They will explain they need to make it an adult portion.

Yes. And at the Jazz Kitchen, part of the kids meal was an ice cream sundae, and they brought an adult sized on of those also! It was about $16, but she got carrot and celery sticks, a large portion of chicken strips with mac and cheese, a soda (it was refillable) and a huge ice cream sundae. We were laughing so hard, as it really was a great deal.

This is what make going to Disneyland so much fun. Everything is possible....
These are good things for us to know for our next trip. I have one in our group that this option is perfect for. Thanks for the info.

My son ate off the kids menu on his last trip without a problem except for Storytellers (menu, not buffet). We ate at Storytellers about four times that trip and just once, breakfast, he wanted the menu not the buffet and he wanted something that the kids had and it was not on the adults menu and they would not let him have it, despite having the kids menu the evening before and two previous breakfasts without a problem.

But everywhere else he ate off the kids menu, had the kids portion and paid the kids price (except buffets of course, he always paid adults price there).

As stated you should have no problems with the 12 year old. For the 16 year old you can order from the kids menus but you will be given the "double/double" deal, this is double the food for double the price. Since my DD15 turned 14 we have done this a few times, or we get the girls 1 kids meal (double/double) and they share it. We tend to do this at Cafe Orleans, they both like the pasta from the kids menu but they can't each eat a full double serving so they share 1 serving. Even at BB you can order from the kids menu, but it is the double/double deal.

Of course at any CS place you can order kids meals with no problems for anyone in your party. I've been known to order a kids meal if I'm not overly hungry.

I did this at the Jolly Holiday Cafe. We had no problems.
