The right way to hang a horseshoe is in the shape of a U. At the barn I used to keep my horses at, whenever a horse lost a shoe, we'd hang them up for good luck - we had them everywhere! Hanging them upside down is supposed to be bring bad luck to the barn.
Agreed! The horse shoe should be hung over a door with the ends facing up. If you hang it upside down the luck falls out. Also it is really lucky to find a horse shoe with the open end facing towards you.
Well I guess now I know the "why" of all of the bad luck and tragedies in my family since my parents first married.. My dad had a horseshoe nailed over the top of the doors of the barn (which later became a garage) in the wrong direction!

I was given a corn dolly shaped like a horse shoe by my maid of honor on my wedding day. 31 years of happy marriage later I guess it worked, although it fell apart after about 10 years. I guess it conteracted the pearl necklace I wore on my wedding day. Brides are not supposed to wear pearls because pearls = tears. The bride will have a bad marriage and have reason to weep.
P.S. Do you know what corn dollies are?
