Old WDW Attractions

Skyway at WDW was closed in 1999.

And I really enjoy history and stories, pics of the old attractions when they ran.
The tomorrowland station still stands next to Space Mountain.
I asked a few cm's about the building and the youngest (19 maybe) of them all was the person with the most knowledge of it.
The Fast Pass attendent at Space Mountain said that the gondolas are stored in the upper platform of the building where the skyway used to make its turn. Is this true?

I was wondering if .....

1. Besides the TL station ...are there any other telltale signs still left in the magic kingdom of the skyways existance?

2. Any one out there have a story about riding it?

3. Any photos ?

4. Reasons / rumors why the skyway was removed.

5. Any other fact or history of this or other wdw closed attractions?

I have a facination with old amusement rides. I used to live in Brooklyn and I would often go to coney island and park at the boardwalk next to the old parachutet jump.
On a sunday morning you could almost hear the laughter from the past. Although it has since been painted and now part of Keyspan Park. it still is a site to see.
Anyone else share this interest in rides?

Thanks for reading

I think one of the reasons it closed was because of an employee getting hurt, don't quote me on that but I know someone was hurt on it. I know they also sold some of the skyway I believe on ebay. I do miss it.

I always remember waiting in line for it and being nervous cause it was so high up.

2000 Leagues is where Pooh's Playspot is now closed due to maintence costs and the size of the ride vehicle I believe.

There's also one where Pooh's ride is now what use to be known as Mr. Toad's wild ride.

If I think of more I'll let ya know.

yes a WDW cast member was killed on the skyway, most parks around the world have gotten rid of skyways for lots of reasons one of the biggest is the high cost of insurance. and stupid people throwing stuff or spitting

Close at water in front of castle you can still see the tracks the Swan Boats used to run on. :goodvibes

I think that the old Fantasyland station is still there, next to Small World.

Yup it's still there... it will probably stay there because it hides the haunted mansion

That one is so pretty, it's a shame that they won't/can't make it some type of dining place.

I have found videos of 20,000 leagues, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, Skyway, and the old Figment ride.

Ooooh really? Can you post links to these please?

I found all these videos on youtube.com just type in walt disney world and you'll get about 20 pages of results for there.

I believe the trees and the old skyway dock hides the back of the haunted mansion ride.

Exactly, it helps add to the illusion that the HM is an actual mansion. If you saw it from the rear it probably resembles a plain building.

Oh man, I loved the Swan Boats! I even miss the old Crystal Palace...much better food and service if you ask me.

As the OP I really appreciate all the info that has been posted on this thread.
The links that many have left are great.
Hope there are more to follow...
In looking at aerial photos it seems as if the entire 20,000 leagues building has also been removed. any info?
while there in 2003 I wish i could have seen the last remnants of this ride.
oh well.
My upcomiong aug 2006 trip will be quite an adventure in that i plan to search many of the sites spoken about.
I'm sure pics will follow....
Thanks again for all the posts and please keep then coming.
