We got our pal Mickey Dec. 2003. I was hoping we could use him for our trip in December this year. I really don't want to buy another one. From what I have read we should be able to and that all the new info will be downloaded when we walk thru the first park. Can someone let me know about this and is there any special procedure to do it and do we need to stand there for a long time? Also, I heard they now have clothes for mickey, does anyone know about that? (I'd love to get a Soceerer out for my son's Mickey).

THANKS ALOT!!!!!!!

Mickey will automatically update when you walk in the park, you don't need to go anywhere special. If for some reason it doesn't update just go into any store that carries MY Pal Mickey and they will update him for you. Don't know where they sell his clothes, I'd be interested in knowing too. Hope you have a great trip this December! We are hoping to go then too! :cheer2:

We have the old pal mickey, too. Does anyone have the new one? What's the difference between the two? Is it worth getting a new one?

TIA

From what I've read the only difference between the two is Mickey is wearing a tuxedo and the new one comes with a lanyard to hand Mickey from.

I'm not a Pal Mickey expert - we rented one once two years ago. Still, I have read that there are more significant differences than just the outfit and the lanyard. Here is a small list I remember from other posts I have read:
  • sing alongs (a new category of interaction for him)
  • more games
  • many of the jokes are supposed to be replaced with trivia
  • he is also supposed to have newer attraction information (I've read accounts where people with version 1 got suggestions to visit Alien Encounter, etc.)
  • his speaking voice is supposed to be louder
Some of those items seem like they could be updated (especially the newer attraction information) so I don't know what to make of some of the reports. It would be nice to hear from the actual engineers - cutting through the marketing can be tough.

From some reports I have read where people get sort of tired of hearing from him, seems like an important feature would be an on/off switch. Doesn't it have one?

How much is pal mickey? I was looking at some one ebay, but I don't even know how much it originally is. They have both old and new versions.

I THINK that the first one was $50, but I could be wrong. Maybe $55? The new one is $65.

I'm still trying to figure out if we're getting this for my daughter's birthday!

Do any of you ever feel you overthink things a bit? Here I am stressing over whether or not to buy a $65 doll, when we all know that the trip will make that look like chump change. But still, it IS $65 for a doll, albeit a neat doll. What to do, what to do...

I know I overthink everything!! At our last parent/teacher conference DD8 teacher said the same thing about her!! I consider it a blessing

Hey SchultzFive! This is totally random, but I have to tell you that one of my favorite students ever was a Schultz. And so everytime I read one of your posts, I smile. So you can thank him next time you run into him at one of the every-Schultz-in-America reunions. :flower:

The old Pal Mickey will not "update" when you walk into the park. He has pre-recorded sayings and, while Disney can make him say those things at other places/times, they cannot have him say new things (like updated for new park attractions, games, etc.). To get the updated park attractions, you need to buy the updated Pal Mickey.

I understand that he won't be updated with NEW attraction times such as Soarin' and Cinderellabration, etc. . . , but the old attraction (show) times will update, right?

Well, that's a little frustrating seeing how when we bought the old one we were told he will be updated whenever you come thru the park gates. I wont buy a new one - especially if they will get another in a year and a half and the "old new" one wont update again.

I was told by the saleslady where I bought my new "old" pal mickey over the phone last week that he WILL update with new info as you walk into the parks. The only thing he won't have is the FEATURES(sing along, new jokes & trivia etc)...all information concerning showtimes, ride info, character tips will be updated. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but this is what I was told. Isn't there a Pal Mickey website out there, maybe that has info...

I sure will, LOL!

I have the old version of Pal Mickey. On our trip to the world over Spring break this year, I used him again. Once we were in the park he updated with current info easily. Show times and attractions were right. The only thing you wont get are the new features available with the new version. He was fun as always.

our "old" pal Mickey is ready to jump in the backpack anyday now. He went last year and we updated him the first evening at the gift shop at POR. I didn't even realize we could do that but we'd had him out on the ride from the airport so after checking in we were kind of hanging out and wandered in the shop and he was clipped to my shorts a CM asked if she could update him for us. We must have had that "just landed" look. She stuck his nose in some magic updater thingy and VIOLA!! He was updated and we hadn't been to a park yet. we'll probably do the same thing this year as we'll be arriving in the early eveing in oh my gosh 17days!!!!! :cheer2:

Could he tell you about new attractions? I didn't think they could do that, but I was just wondering, since you'd actually know.
