OLD THREAD: 2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ, Part 2- May, June and July DON'T POST HERE!

If she's taking dme remember to notify Disney/dme as she must be on their lists to board the bus. The shortest dme I can remember was to the poly when we were first stop that one was about an hour. The longest was to AKL we were last after something like 6 other resorts that one took 3 hrs.

Wasn't this the first in a streak of storms that came every two or three days until mid-February? My snowblower died during the first storm of the winter (the previous Nov). I boldly declared that I would wait until Spring in order to get a better deal on a new one. Plus, I would also benefit by getting some exercise from shoveling. Then, when I saw the forecast for the week whenever the storms begin, I quickly changed my mind and rushed out to get a new toro. Somehow I managed to get the last one in stock at the local dealer, but I was a little ticked off, because I bought one that was larger than what I thought I actually needed. Well, went the storms ended and I was the only one with a working snowblower in the neighbor, I was definitely pleased with my sudden impulse buy!:goodvibes

I don't think it was the first, but it was the biggest. We definitely had a storm every week for a while. Actually, I remember it snowing on Dec. 20th. (Yes, I remember weird things like that. We had doctors appointments and I remember we were driving in the snow and it was less than a week until Christmas.) From then on, it was snow at least once a week.

Was that the storm that resulted in Halloween being postponed?

Speaking of the Halloween storm last year, we flew home from our Savannah vacation in that one. My Dad called while we were at the airport to tell us about the storm and asked if we were going to make it home. I told him we were flying to Baltimore first, but so far, on time. I think there was a slight delay on that first leg. Then we got to Baltimore. It didn't look good at all and the airport was packed because so many flights cancelled or delayed. They told us they didn't know if we were going to get into Providence, that the airport was still open, but it could close at any time...even while we were in the air. They said that Hartford was already closed and possibly Boston too. But alas, our plane arrived, they got us on ASAP and off we went. WORST FLIGHT OF MY LIFE. I think there are still indentations on the armrests from my husband and I gripping them for dear life. We were the last plane to land in Providence. They shut it down after we landed. I said that if I'm ever supposed to fly home again when they are predicting a storm like that, I won't get on the plane.

Then the drive from Providence to Foxboro...treacherous! As we got into Foxboro, I noticed it was awfully dark. And then we got to the traffic light near our house...and it was out. UGH! We knew we had no power. (We'd already been without power for almost 5 full days after the hurricane in August.) We pull into the pitch dark parking lot of our apartment, there's several inches of snow and sleet on the ground and more falling, we only have sweatshirts (since we were in Florida/Georgia for the past week and the weather was typical fall when we'd left) and sneakers.

As you can probably guess, I will never forget it! And yet this year, that's the week we are going to Disney. There had better not be a repeat. But, I still haven't booked a flight home, so maybe there is a reason for that. :rotfl:

Good luck with your upcoming task-

An hour to 1.5 hours is a good estimate for ME to YC. We have used it twice and with a 10 am landing, we have been at the BC close to 11 one trip and close to 11:30 on another.

Part of it depends on if you have to wait long for the bus to fill, and how many other stops you have. I think we stopped at POR and BW both times we took ME.

A cab would be quicker, but I personally don't think it saves enough time to justify the cost. Not sure what the cost is, but I'm guessing around $40 each way. I think if you go to the Mears website, there is a cab fare estimator.

Yes it is a task! ;) Thanks for the help!

My fiance and I are officially booked to stay at a Beach Club Studio Villa from February 18th-24th, 2013! We are going on a 2-week Disneymoon and I wanted more than anything to stay there for the first part of the trip before we head out on the Disney Dream. :woohoo: I have a couple of questions though...

1) We will be actually arriving in Disney World on the 17th and are planning to stay at the Art of Animation Resort for one night. Is it a fairly easy process to switch from one resort to the other? Will they take care of the luggage and everything, or would we have to take a cab or something and lug it all over ourselves?

2) Any suggestions on room requests to make? I would prefer to have a water view and be a little closer to the lobby, but water view is the big one.

Thank you in advance and I am so excited for this trip!

Was that the storm that resulted in Halloween being postponed?

It sure was...I was freaking out at the airport because I didn't want to get stranded at MCO but I sure as heck didn't want to fly in the storm either.

Ok, true confession time:

I'm a teacher. I love snow, snow days, shoveling snow, the whole nine yards. Even without the days off, a good snowstorm breaks up the monotomy of winter.

Shoveling snow is the only type of exercise I really enjoy!

I am lucky and DH shovels but I love snow days! For the first time in 9 years of teaching in Michigan, we did not get a single one last year. It was WEIRD

Yes, that! :) I love the running talk. You are all making me REALLY want to do a Disney run. How cool would it be to do my first half-marathon at Disney?? ;)

Ah, well...I think I'll start with a lap or two around SAB in December. :)

The Princess will be my first half. I have a chance to do one in October but I want Disney to be my first so I am just doing a 10K then!

So, on to the GREAT NEWS!!! I was able to book us to stay at BCV for race weekend. If it is OK, can you add me back to the list for February 22-25th! I am so excited. Since OKW is not a host resort I was getting so worried but no need anymore. And I get to be like one of the people from Mike's picture!! I cannot wait

Just wanted to say hey to fellow MA, NH residents (natebenma...etc.). I hope you're all safe, not too soaked and free from damage. My town just had the first tornado warning I can ever remember. It went as quickly as it came, and thankfully my actual town was spared (the tornado formed right on the coast and went out to the ocean quickly), but wow, those were a few scary minutes!

We are a little more than 5 weeks away til our free dining trip at BC :) So excited! We do have a question tho, and this is a very important issue.... ;) Where is the closest QS place where we can find Mickey waffles? (just QS..all our TS credits are spoken for). And we will have a car so I guess we could go to a resort food court? Is there a nicer food court or place in a park for them?

Thanks so much for any info

1) Although, we've never done it, everyone reports that it is very easy to have WDW move your luggage for you. Hopefully someone else will add to this. Do be sure to take anything you will need for the day with you as the luggage may not make it to BCV until late afternoon.

2) There are no views of the lake from BCV. There are views of the pool and there is also a canal view but the canal itself is not scenic.

What a great honeymoon. Happy planning!

I'm right there with ya! Yes, I am a snow bunny. There is nothing more relaxing than watching the flakes fly (which is probably why I am in love with this board!).

With less than 3 weeks to go for our trip I'm hearing now that my DSIL might be coming along for part of our stay. While I'm both happy and a bit anxious about this I'm having some difficulty explaining some of the basic "logistics" of WDW. She went when she was a child but doesn't remember much of it and needless to say I sometimes have to be the communicator between her and DW. I'm sure most of you have run into the problem of trying to explain Disney to someone who doesn't "get Disney". Shes of the impression that YC is a hop skip and a jump away from MCO. I tried to explain it would take some time for her to get to the resort (using ME). My question is how long is the trip from MCO to YC using ME? I think I remember something like 40minuntes but could not be sure. I told her by the time she got off the flight (I think she'll just do carry-on but maybe she'll check), got to ME, and rode to YC it would be around 1 to 1.5 hours. Is that accurate? Her next response was "I'll just cab it" but I would think that a cab would be 1)still somewhat long of a journey 2)somewhat expensive? Anyone ever cabbed from MCO to YC?
Thanks in advance, sorry for slight rant. :goodvibes

Oh how stressful! I'm sorry you have to deal with this. I'd like to offer you some advice from someone who has been there done that with the other (clueless!) traveling companions in our "Party".

The unfortunate thing is that unless she decides to get on board with the program it's probably going to be a boondoggle.

My advice is this. Let her do Disney her way and have her meet you as you go on your way. Some people have no intention or ability to get up early/stay late and do the Disney parks shuffle. THANK GOD FOR CELL PHONES! Let her do things her way and when she is ready to meet you have her call and then you can tell her where you'll meet. Make it a place you can manage so that it doesn't impact on your trip.

What ever you do don't involve her in dining plans where you have to leave a credit card reservation and they penalize you for not showing up or having a person short. Keep the dining plans with her quick and easy, that way if she blows the schedule she won't impact your plans too much. She's a novice so she won't know what she is missing when you don't include her at say Victoria's and Albert's for that special meal.

The important thing to keep in mind is to not take ownership of her "problems" Let her know what you are doing. Ask her if she'd like to tag along or go her own way. Gently make it clear that you have a schedule that she does NOT have to follow and she can call you when she is ready to meet up. If it's time for opening at the MK and she is running slow at the hotel tell her you will meet her there and be on your way. Once she sees that you are serious she will come to terms with the schedule that she wants, hers or yours.

What ever you do don't give in to any whining or wait for me pleas that will cause you to miss what you want to see. The key is being consistant, that way her expectations will fall in line.

The other thing that I would emphasize is to communicate. Communicate to her that she can have the Disney vacation that she wants and that you need to have the Disney vacation that you want. Emphasize that both choices are ok and that you will meet up with her when she finally makes it to the park and calls or texts (even better!) on the cell phone.

Now if she is a "Klingon" and she doesn't want you to leave her but she can't be ready in time then you simply have to leave on your schedule and she simply has to catch up. Dem's da rules that everybody understands before you go on the trip.

Hopefully this will avoid a lot of struggle between the people in the traveling party.

1) Explain the traveling rules/schedule needs before you leave on the trip.
2) Tell her catching up by cell phone is fine.
3) Stick to your rules. When you start to accommodate someone who is gumming up the schedule all heck breaks loose and the plan falls apart.
4) Emphasize kindly she can have the Disney vacation she wants if she doesn't want to stick to your plan, but she is responsible for entertaining herself and coming up with her plan.

Good luck

I was thinking about Robyn today too remembering the same! I can't wait to hear how her Universal days went. Last year we stayed at HRH for 2 nights then over to the YC for 6.

Don't forget that Dis meet is coming up!

For those of you who may be down at the Beach/Yacht club during the Third Annual BC/YC Dis Meet on Sunday, July 22 at 6:30 pm in the Beach Club Solarium.......

DON'T BE BASHFUL! Stop on by. All of these people are really friendly and new people will be welcomed with open arms. I realize everybody is really busy running around while they are at Disney but just stop in for 15 mins. to say hi and join the fun.

I couldn't agree more! I went to the first Meet 2 years ago and met Robyn, YCFAN, Sioux31, and several others along with their families. What a fun time!! My hubby took the picture that is one page 1 of this thread. I also had the pleasure and fortune of seeing Teena almost every day of our trip that year (she worked all but 2 or 3 days of our trip...miss you Teena!). My kids ended up hanging out with sioux31's kids a few times and we went out one night (World Showcase) with sioux31 and her DH (great family!). Fun times!

That winter was the worst ever! I have never shoveled so much in my life! Every single weekend we had like a foot of snow. The older I get the more I hate the winter!

We just got back from Ogunquit and it was beautiful there! About 10 degrees cooler then in Mass and a beautiful sea breeze! So sad to leave but thankfully I have our BC trip in 35 days to look forward to!

Jay

That was a terrible winter!

I hope you enjoyed your time in Ogunquit. Did you have a chance to check out Littlefields?

Have a great time at BC!

Good luck

You have nailed it, thats exactly what has been going through my mind! I told DW that she needs to understand that while we all love WDW, we are there for the kids. And if DS6 wants to ride carousel of progress (which for some strange reason he insists on doing) we're going to do it. DS7 loves to ride spaceship earth and he will ask to ride it every time we go past it, and typically we do! I fear even if she is initially into it she'll start to complain about doing the same "kiddie" rides over and over or why we would be waiting 90+ minutes for soarin'....um because it's awesome! One of the things she said to me was that DW could take the boys to do some smaller rides while her and I did the "roller coasters". DW typically doesn't like the thrill rides, she'll suck it up for the kids, but she does enjoy the rides at Disney. She loves the themes, the details, and they are on the tamer side when compared to most parks. I told DISL that our boys ride everything. The only ride they haven't done is RnR (due to height restrictions which this year looks like they'll be able to ride). So I'm guessing she thinks it's more like Busch Gardens where they have multiple coasters that you have to be very big to ride :confused3 . I don't know, maybe she'll be on board and it will all go well and I'm just over thinking it.
