Wasn't this the first in a streak of storms that came every two or three days until mid-February? My snowblower died during the first storm of the winter (the previous Nov). I boldly declared that I would wait until Spring in order to get a better deal on a new one. Plus, I would also benefit by getting some exercise from shoveling. Then, when I saw the forecast for the week whenever the storms begin, I quickly changed my mind and rushed out to get a new toro. Somehow I managed to get the last one in stock at the local dealer, but I was a little ticked off, because I bought one that was larger than what I thought I actually needed. Well, went the storms ended and I was the only one with a working snowblower in the neighbor, I was definitely pleased with my sudden impulse buy!![]()
Was that the storm that resulted in Halloween being postponed?
The activities/events for Food and Wine Festival are out!!!
Good luck with your upcoming task-
An hour to 1.5 hours is a good estimate for ME to YC. We have used it twice and with a 10 am landing, we have been at the BC close to 11 one trip and close to 11:30 on another.
Part of it depends on if you have to wait long for the bus to fill, and how many other stops you have. I think we stopped at POR and BW both times we took ME.
A cab would be quicker, but I personally don't think it saves enough time to justify the cost. Not sure what the cost is, but I'm guessing around $40 each way. I think if you go to the Mears website, there is a cab fare estimator.
If she's taking dme remember to notify Disney/dme as she must be on their lists to board the bus. The shortest dme I can remember was to the poly when we were first stop that one was about an hour. The longest was to all we were last after something like 6 other resorts that one took 3 hrs.
Was that the storm that resulted in Halloween being postponed?
It sure was...I was freaking out at the airport because I didn't want to get stranded at MCO but I sure as heck didn't want to fly in the storm either.
Ok, true confession time:
I'm a teacher. I love snow, snow days, shoveling snow, the whole nine yards. Even without the days off, a good snowstorm breaks up the monotomy of winter.
Shoveling snow is the only type of exercise I really enjoy!
Yes, that!I love the running talk. You are all making me REALLY want to do a Disney run. How cool would it be to do my first half-marathon at Disney??

Ah, well...I think I'll start with a lap or two around SAB in December.![]()
Robyn checks in to the BC today! As Scarlett would say, "I'm pea green with envy!"
With pleasure!

My fiance and I are officially booked to stay at a Beach Club Studio Villa from February 18th-24th, 2013! We are going on a 2-week Disneymoon and I wanted more than anything to stay there for the first part of the trip before we head out on the Disney Dream.I have a couple of questions though...
1) We will be actually arriving in Disney World on the 17th and are planning to stay at the Art of Animation Resort for one night. Is it a fairly easy process to switch from one resort to the other? Will they take care of the luggage and everything, or would we have to take a cab or something and lug it all over ourselves?
2) Any suggestions on room requests to make? I would prefer to have a water view and be a little closer to the lobby, but water view is the big one.
Thank you in advance and I am so excited for this trip!
So, on to the GREAT NEWS!!! I was able to book us to stay at BCV for race weekend. If it is OK, can you add me back to the list for February 22-25th! I am so excited. Since OKW is not a host resort I was getting so worried but no need anymore. And I get to be like one of the people from Mike's picture!! I cannot wait
Yeah!![]()
I'm right there with ya! Yes, I am a snow bunny. There is nothing more relaxing than watching the flakes fly (which is probably why I am in love with this board!).
With less than 3 weeks to go for our trip I'm hearing now that my DSIL might be coming along for part of our stay. While I'm both happy and a bit anxious about this I'm having some difficulty explaining some of the basic "logistics" of WDW. She went when she was a child but doesn't remember much of it and needless to say I sometimes have to be the communicator between her and DW. I'm sure most of you have run into the problem of trying to explain Disney to someone who doesn't "get Disney". Shes of the impression that YC is a hop skip and a jump away from MCO. I tried to explain it would take some time for her to get to the resort (using ME). My question is how long is the trip from MCO to YC using ME? I think I remember something like 40minuntes but could not be sure. I told her by the time she got off the flight (I think she'll just do carry-on but maybe she'll check), got to ME, and rode to YC it would be around 1 to 1.5 hours. Is that accurate? Her next response was "I'll just cab it" but I would think that a cab would be 1)still somewhat long of a journey 2)somewhat expensive? Anyone ever cabbed from MCO to YC?
Thanks in advance, sorry for slight rant.![]()

For those of you who may be down at the Beach/Yacht club during the Third Annual BC/YC Dis Meet on Sunday, July 22 at 6:30 pm in the Beach Club Solarium.......
DON'T BE BASHFUL! Stop on by. All of these people are really friendly and new people will be welcomed with open arms. I realize everybody is really busy running around while they are at Disney but just stop in for 15 mins. to say hi and join the fun.
That winter was the worst ever! I have never shoveled so much in my life! Every single weekend we had like a foot of snow. The older I get the more I hate the winter!
We just got back from Ogunquit and it was beautiful there! About 10 degrees cooler then in Mass and a beautiful sea breeze! So sad to leave but thankfully I have our BC trip in 35 days to look forward to!

Oh how stressful! I'm sorry you have to deal with this. I'd like to offer you some advice from someone who has been there done that with the other (clueless!) traveling companions in our "Party".
The unfortunate thing is that unless she decides to get on board with the program it's probably going to be a boondoggle.
My advice is this. Let her do Disney her way and have her meet you as you go on your way. Some people have no intention or ability to get up early/stay late and do the Disney parks shuffle. THANK GOD FOR CELL PHONES! Let her do things her way and when she is ready to meet you have her call and then you can tell her where you'll meet. Make it a place you can manage so that it doesn't impact on your trip.
What ever you do don't involve her in dining plans where you have to leave a credit card reservation and they penalize you for not showing up or having a person short. Keep the dining plans with her quick and easy, that way if she blows the schedule she won't impact your plans too much. She's a novice so she won't know what she is missing when you don't include her at say Victoria's and Albert's for that special meal.
The important thing to keep in mind is to not take ownership of her "problems" Let her know what you are doing. Ask her if she'd like to tag along or go her own way. Gently make it clear that you have a schedule that she does NOT have to follow and she can call you when she is ready to meet up. If it's time for opening at the MK and she is running slow at the hotel tell her you will meet her there and be on your way. Once she sees that you are serious she will come to terms with the schedule that she wants, hers or yours.
What ever you do don't give in to any whining or wait for me pleas that will cause you to miss what you want to see. The key is being consistant, that way her expectations will fall in line.
The other thing that I would emphasize is to communicate. Communicate to her that she can have the Disney vacation that she wants and that you need to have the Disney vacation that you want. Emphasize that both choices are ok and that you will meet up with her when she finally makes it to the park and calls or texts (even better!) on the cell phone.
Now if she is a "Klingon" and she doesn't want you to leave her but she can't be ready in time then you simply have to leave on your schedule and she simply has to catch up. Dem's da rules that everybody understands before you go on the trip.
Hopefully this will avoid a lot of struggle between the people in the traveling party.
1) Explain the traveling rules/schedule needs before you leave on the trip.
2) Tell her catching up by cell phone is fine.
3) Stick to your rules. When you start to accommodate someone who is gumming up the schedule all heck breaks loose and the plan falls apart.
4) Emphasize kindly she can have the Disney vacation she wants if she doesn't want to stick to your plan, but she is responsible for entertaining herself and coming up with her plan.
Good luck
