Old Style Minnie Bridal Hat

I don't think Disney stores sell them either, please correct me if I am wrong because if they do that would be great to know.

Unfortunately, you are correct, the stores don't sell them either.

Not having access to ears (and being inpatient) is why I used craft foam to make my ears. I happened to have a set of Minnie ears at home and used them as a "pattern" to cut the craft foam. The real thick stuff is very stiff and very easy to work with. I just used hot glue to stick them to my headband.

You could also print a "mickey icon" off the printer on your computer and use those ears as a pattern.

So, I have a quick question, where do you find just the mouse ears? At a store like Michael's??

We bought ours at Disneyland cuz we live nearby. They are only sold by Disney and not even at the Disney Store, unfortunately.

There are online shopping services that will go to the parks and buy them for you, but they mark the prices up to cover their services. Check out ThemeParkShopper.com and LaughingPlaceStore.com and Gifts of a Lifetime. eBay might be your best bet - this pair isn't too expensive.

Can you get that Barge glue at a craft store or what?

I talked to DH, and he buys Barge at a large foam store in L.A. I guess it's industrial-strength stuff, and he recommends that if you use it, you wear latex gloves and a charcoal respirator

Alternatively, he suggests contact cement/adhesive, which is made by companies like Dap and 3M and can be found at the hardware store. They prolly still require you to wear gloves, but you might be able to skip the respirator if you work in a well-ventilated area.

I have also used a craft adhesive called E6000 for other projects, I just don't know if it would work in this case - it seems to dry with a slightly rubbery texture, while contact cement dries like hard plastic.

How did you attatch the white ears as they come on a headband and not a hat where you can cut the fabric of the hat around them?

DH doesn't quite remember what was at the bottom, but in looking at our hats, we can see there is a wire loop forming each bride ear. We think that when he detached the ears from the headband, there was wire at the bottom that he pushed through the slits in the ball cap, and then covered with felt. When you cut the material off the headband you'll see how the ears are attached to it and maybe be able to reuse that structure.

Carrie you are the best so I am not going to totally rip you off. Just the idea. I don't want to spend so much on the bride ears, so instead of the sequin ones I bought ears that are pink (I love the color) and will find some scrap tulle and create the same look.

I really don't mind if anybody rips us off, but your idea sounds like it's going to be super-cute! :cutie:

Carrie you are the best!! Thank you so much for posting all the information on how to and where to get everything!! Thanks for the link for the mickey ears I am going to get one now!

Funny story..I went into Michael's today to start getting supplies for my craft projects I want to do and I asked like all the employees about the Barge clue and they were like "what glue????" Now I know why!:lmao:

Thanks again! :worship:

Hi Everyone! I just wanted to let you all know you can buy the BARGE glue that Carrie's DH used to make the bride/groom hats on Ebay for about $10 in case anyone wanted to get it.

Laura

...There may also be a pair of bride and groom mouse ear ball caps on eBay at this very moment. :rolleyes1

I wish you would have said something earlier before I ordered all my pieces!!

Anywhoo I finished my hat and heres the pic!

I love pink so I went a little crazy. I am actually thinking of adding mickey heads to the tulle like my real veil.

Those came out great! Good job! :thumbsup2

I just got my Bride & Groom hats in so now I am just waiting on the ears and the glue and then I can put mine together!

I just ended up using regular hot glue and it turned out fine. I was a little scared when Carrie mentioned the use of a charcoal respirator and figured hot glue would work just as well. I also sewed the veil to keep it together so that probably helped. I think the whole project ended up being under $30. Definitely worth it!

SO cute! I am very jealous now. I could have loved pink.... :cutie:

I want to know what happens too!

I have to say I was a little freaked about using the bride headband since you said that it was a little trickier. I wasn't in love with sequins so it made it quite an easy choice.
I am addicted to pink so it was not that hard of a choice. But I just realized that the pink ears are slightly smaller than the black ones. I think its because its from an infant hat, but I don't think its really that big of a deal.I just hope they make it in my suitcase ok, do you think it would be tacky of me to wear them on the plane?

Wear them on the plane!!! You might get bumped up to first class.

I confess I have the bridal hat and I wore it at my rehearsal. Does anyone have ANY idea how to clean them at all? Can I take off the net and wash it? They were in storage and the plastic bag had a hole in it and they got really dirty and dusty.

I wore my hot pink mouse ears I put together on the plane ride home. well, just through the airport and security until we got settled in our seats... then they sat on my lap!

ADORABLE!!!!

TOTALLY wear them on the plane! On our way home we were on the plane with another DFTW couple. They wore their ears and we didn't, so they got all these perks that we didn't (but they very graciously pointed us out to the flight attendants later and we ended up getting free sundaes!)
