Old ship on World Showcase Lagoon pics

That's interesting - never seen it before. Maybe it has something to do with the Pirates of the Caribbean promotions...

That would be a good question for Mark Goldhaber at Mouse Planet...he knows just about everything...I'll send him an email

Is this boat going to replace the sailing ship that was at the threatre before?

The boat was installed in the late 90's. It was called the Golden Dream. Unfortunately the boat was destroyed by the hurricanes of 2004.

I guess we will have to wait for details. It looked great in the middle of the lagoon.

Hmm, maybe...I want to say I saw that boat (or the other) a few trips back docked near Italy kind of where the bridge crosses over...

Anyone else know anything? This is a bit or a mystery...

Looks like answer is already here, but this from Mark at MousePlanet anyway...

"That's interesting - hadn't heard about the ship. Back when they first built the vertical stage structure at the America Gardens Theater (I think it was back in the '90s -- originally, it just was a flat, open-air stage), they put a sailing ship there so that the view across the lagoon at the American Adventure pavilion didn't look like it was blocked by a big box in front of the pavilion, but instead had a period sailing vessel parked out front. In fact, if you take a look at the 1995 "Beach Party at Walt Disney World" Sing-Along video, they did one number ("A Pirate's Life") on board the ship with Captain Hook, Smee and some other guys playing pirates.

At some point, the ship disappeared (from storm damage, if I recall correctly). This ship looks nearly identical to the original one. I guess it may have been repaired and/or replaced?"

That is very cool!!! Glad to see Disney got it up and running again! :)

Thanks for asking this question Safetymom... Hubby was at the park with "the little engineer" and saw the ship in the middle of the lagoon as well (we got some fun pics too). We were perplexed as to why it was there. He will be sad that he missed the ceremony as well.

ptetty cool, been to disney many times and i have never seen it, maybe i just never noticed
