I remember when those chatrooms were invented. I was in my last year of highschool and was taking some summer school classes to prepare for final exams. This classes were taught at the university nearby, taught by students trying to earn some extra money.
We were sitting in groups of six in a small room, in a hallway with half a dozen of these small rooms.
Each room at the university had its own computer, and the students showed us how we could "talk" via the computer with the room next to us.
Minds blown!
It was considered extremely new and high tech back then
