"old school" beauty

Hmm...I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I work in a high school and have seen may of these. Leggings/pants with stirrups, boat shoes (Sperrys everywhere!), and floppy bows (on headbands).

the one 80's look i do still like is skirts/dresses with leggings and flats. i can't wear heels so i practically live in flats and i just bought a new pair of leggings!

I go way back to white go-go boots. I hope those never return

My DD is in 8th grade and almost everything you all listed is "IN" right now. The only thing I haven't seen is the big bangs, shoulder pads, and Zubaz. Everything else is back in spades. My DD doubles her shirts, leggings with jeans, has boat shoes, leggings, lots of neon and rubber bracelets and big gold hoop earrings. eyeshadow is bright and blue and hot pink with tons of sparkles everywhere. Plus, she got a spiral perm just this past fall. Guys have frosted hair also along with pink , blue, whatever color you can think of and it's long.

I love my Sperrys...shhh.

I hope to never see the big baggy tee shirts that get tied off to one side with a scrunchie.

Too late, they use hair ties instead of scrunchies now, and sometimes they are tied in the back instead.

Okay, I'm glad ya'll said this because I often see many of these very things on today's young people. I'm not always on top of the latest trends though, so I was thinking maybe all the kids around here are just behind the times.

One thing that I hope doesn;t come back is the "Flashdance" look -- cut off sweats, etc. Also, the 80s workout wear with the super high cut leos and hose and leg warmers. Ugh. I hated that look even back then.

Flashdance fashion is back. Off the shoulder tee-shirts with tanks underneath...

Well, there you go. I just said I'm not up on the latest trends. LOL!! However, I haven't seen the off the shoulder stuff around here. Around here it is pajama pants (which is another trend I dislike) and swimsuit cover-up type dresses.

I was about to say the same thing! DD id in 7th grade, and she gathers every T she owns with a ponytail holder in the back. Irritates me to no end- she can never find a ponytail holder for her hair, because they are all stretched out from tying back her shirts.

We are living mine right now !
Child of the 60's and I think the low rise, flared bottom pants that are back look ridiculous. Been there done that......so glad that next up should be the Annie Hall look witch I actually still adore !
I am going to laugh in 15 more years when Mom jeans will again be the height of fashion.

The one thing I can not wait to go away is the pants hanging off so you can see the underwear. Just nasty!:scared1:

Pretty much anything from the late 60's-early 70's is something I never want to see again. The elephant bell pants (Levi cords in every color of the rainbow) especially.

When I was in high school in the 80's everything was very preppy. I would be ok with that coming back again. The big hair era didn't hit here until the very late 80's/early 90's.

I do wish leggings (minus the stirrups) with the big shirts/sweaters would come back. It was SO comfortable.

I guess I am kinda nostaligic. I met my wife in 1990 while we were just starting high school and those trends and fashion were huge. She was so cute in the skirts and white keds and "mall bangs". :)

You all have failed to mention one particular look from the 80's that I still find very cute but I won't mention it and see if anyone stumbles upon it.

BTW, I've seen countless girls wearing leggings over the past 5 years as well as those tight legged jeans and even those with the zipper at the ankle. (my wife had a pair way back in 90 and has a pair she bought at hollister like 2 years ago)

Everything I thought of was pretty well covered here already with the exception of two things:

1. Those super tiny, infant-sized gathered/puckered shirts that were one size fits all when you stretched them out. One shirt could fit the whole family.

2. The Grunge look. YUCK.

:scared1::laughing:

I think the worst of all time was the ladies' "romper"--flowered print get-up with a big collar, billowy bloomer legs and ankle cuffs. Believe it or not, professional women here on campus wore them and looked hideous, especially in the plus sizes! :scared1: We called them "clown suits."

See bolded below
Another 80s child here, too.

Things I never want to see worn again:

Members Only jackets - haven't seen them yet
leg warmers (I've started seeing these again - please, NO!) - have seen them
puffball bangs - what are these????
Z-Cavaricci pants/shorts worn with boat shoes (sans socks, of course)
jeans tight rolled at the ankles - haven't seen this yet
skirts/dresses over footless leggings with flats - have been seeing these a lot!
parachute pants - haven't seen these yet
the aforementioned shoulder pads - I LOVED big shoulder pads!

The 80s were simply an unfortunate decade for fashion all the way 'round.

Pleated pants

Acid-washed jeans

colored tights with shorts and Doc Martens

My fave "outfit" in high school ('94 grad) was cutoff denim shorts (or short skirt), my black & white striped "Pippi Longstocking" tights and my Docs. It was fun to watch my teen son's eyes bug out when he saw pics of that and my other... interesting clothing choices from back then. :lmao: BTW, those Docs held up over 15 years until one got chewed up by a puppy.
