Old Pool at Contemporary

With all the talk about DVC at the Contemporary, I was reminded of my first visit, Easter 1972. We were staying in the tower of the Contemporary. Unfortunately, I don't have many pictures of that visit, but I thought some of you might find these two interesting. I vividly remember swimming in the large pool, and using my room key (a real brass one), to buy a hamburger at the poolside snack bar. I also have a memory of gold shag carpet in the room.

I don't remember that large rectangular pool. The only pool that I remember when we stayed, it was in the 80's, was a round pool.

You were certainly one of the earliest WDW visitors! Our first trip was in January 1977, when we took our oldest DS 2 1/2 at the time.

Has anyone else run into a website with old pictures of the Contemporary? It's not my favorite WDW hotel, but I sure would like to take a trip down memory lane.

I remember the large pool, too. We stayed at the Contemporary one night during spring break, 1979. The garden wing room was $95- a small fortune for a college student back then.

I remember that pool, too. Trying to think what year that must have been. Possibly 1977.

I'd like to find some old pictures myself. We stayed at the Poly when I was 8 and I staying in a room right outside the main pool(no rooms on the first floor main bldg anymore) and I remember the main pool being smaller. I alse remember being able to swim in the lagoon.

It's funny how cutting edge the Contemporary was back then!

We stayed there in Feb. of 1973. Our garden wing room was about $45, very expensive for Florida at the time. We were blown away by the room. I remember it was huge (that's still true!) and the bathrooms had heaters, which I'd never seen before. It was by far the fanciest place I'd ever stayed.

Funny how the world turns, isn't it?

Who knew -- in 1972 -- that 34 years later, you'd still have fond memories...still be this involved with Disney World...and be posting these same pictures... on an Internet web page ... devoted to a Disney timeshare ...that you own?!!!

Sometimes when I see stuff like this, I have to just take a step back and say, "WOW!"

Ummm....okay....I am about to date myself here. It has been so long since I really looked at the pool at the Contemporary....I thought they still had the square pool? You're telling me it's round now? Wow!!! I guess I was never that impressed with it, so I never really "looked" past when we stayed there when I was kid!!

I also remember swimming in the lagoon off the Contemporary.

I guess we're really old!!

I couldn't even have imagined a computer back in 1972. My father worked with them though. I remember him hauling these boxes full of little cards with chads punched out for his programs.

I just wish Daddy had taken more pictures of that particular visit. I do remember the cost of the room. It was $18 dollars a night. They were running a special for the military over Easter Weekend.
