Old Phone Contract is Up. Help Us Save!

Net10 offers a family plan, that is the only reason I would recommend it for OP over Straight Talk.

I have Straight Talk for myself with an ATT SIM but they no longer sell them. SIMS are now Tmobile. BUT, you can get a Verizon phone and flash it to ST. Walmart's iPhone they sell for ST is Verizon.

Hmm, Net10 around my area uses the same towers as Straight Talk, I'd been with ST now I'm with Net10 and there's been no difference. T-Mobile is crappy around here.

I sell both at my store. VM is good but they don't pick up that great unless you live close to a tower. I live in the country and VM does not work at all here. In the city it is fine. Page Plus works almost everywhere. VM is a great option if you stay in the city.

That is weird because we live in the middle of cornfields 45 mins to an hour to any good shopping and we never had issues with VM. Maybe we are lucky and have a lot of country towers, who knows. It does make sense to go with whatever service has towers in your area though. Page Plus sounds like it has towers everywhere if it is on the Verizon towers. I will check it out.

your husband WILL NOT be able to use his T-mobile phone at verizon. Verizon phones dont have SIM cards.

I have verizon and have 4 lines. 3 smart phones and 1 basic old phone.

My bill is between 275 and 300 each month ,, silly taxes and surcharges changes constantly..LOL

you can all share 2 gb of internet on the share everything plan that might get it a little cheaper than my bill... but for a family of 4 that IS NOT a lot a month. My teen son can and does use his whole allotted 2gb a month.

My hubby who has an iphone hardly uses any. but with 2 kids i would NOT recommend sharing only 2 gb of data.

When Verizon bought out Altel, i have a grandfathered plan. I have TRUE unlimited data, which is the main reason we dont do the family share plan. I am not given up my unlimited data to save 30 bucks a month.

Verizon just recently (last year) changed things so that I CAN NOT upgrade my line anymore unless I drop my grandfather plan. So that means I have to pay full price for my phones. so I will prolly buy them off ebay...LOL

Now that is cheap! Do you get data and unlimited text messages?

We all have voice, text & data - kids plans are less than mine, but, it is a good way to control how much they are using. Look up Kitty wireless - there are a bunch of different plans. None of those extra charges I had from Verizon. I feel like such a sucker paying that much for so many years! :dance3:

Here is my two cents......
Just can't beat Virgin Mobile. We have been with them a few years now and aRE VERY HAPPY. We have 2 android smartphones and pay $50 per month total for 300 talk, unlimited text and unlimited internet. Once we get a new phone we will have to start paying $30 per phone. We are grandfathered in right now with their original rate of $25 per phone. You have to buy their phones and the iphone 4 8gb is on sale for $297. Still saves you money if you figure it out. It would be 1/2 the cost of having a Verizon plan if you don't need all those talk mins. If we have 3 iphones it will only cost us $90 per month for service. Plus the cost of the phone, but no contract. Its a no brainer for us and I feel bad for those who pay contracted prices. Such a rip off!

Another thumbs up for VM. I just bought a Samsung Galaxy Reverb for $130and love it! The plan costs $35 a month for unlimited texting and internet plus 300 minutes of talk time.

It's time to sign up for a new phone plan, and I am looking for advice. Long story short, we have been on a contract with T Mobile for two years and can't wait to switch to another carrier. We signed with T Mobile to save money, and it wasn't worth it. Even though we live and work in a major city and suburbs, reception is horrible. We previously had a contract with Verizon and were very pleased with the service. It was expensive, but reliable. We want to sign back on with Verizon, but we are hoping to do so in a budget-savvy fashion. Any advice on how to do that would be greatly appreciated!

Go Prepaid!

Net10 (and sister brand Straight Talk) offers a fully-featured Android smartphone (Samsung Galaxy Proclaim), as well as the iPhone 5 -- all powered on the Verizon network.

And the best part is service for unlimited talk/text (and roughly 2.5 GB data) per line only costs $45 with no contracts/commitments (though you do have to pay full price for the equipment).

I think the problem still is that the OP hasn't said what his/her needs are.

300 minutes of talk would last me 3 days. And if I had to SHARE that, well, we would all be in trouble.

I don't text much (well, under 1000 anyway). I don't use much data as I am usually on wifi.

So, OP, what do you need? How much data? How many minutes? How much texting?

There are all sorts of dirt cheap plans out there ($12 Page Plus comes to mind), but you wont' get much in terms of talk, text, or data. If you don't need/want that you are in luck. If you do, you need to look around.

Just and FYI the $25 plan that I am grandfathered into to will be $35 if you get a new phone. $35 is the lowest cost for new customers as well as us grandfathered with new phones. So $105 for 3 phones on that plan per month. I did hear some people got into a $30 deal with signing up to pay it automatically on a visa but that deal is no longer available.

Yes I do know that. The deal $30 with auto pay was available yesterday on the VM site. Unless they changed it over night???

We have two phones with VM, both are grandfathered on the $25 plan.

The cost of the plans is excellent, but VM uses the Sprint network. I live and work in region that is a state capital and is not remote in the least. While the VM map shows excellent coverage where I am, it is not good at all.

I bought a smart phone primarily to use at dd's dance studio, to kill time while waiting for her. (No wifi, unfortunately.) I get exactly zero data and can barely make a phone call. It's also iffy to get signal at my house.

I would try to find somebody who uses VM in your area and ask about it first.

We just bought a smart phone for dh from Straight Talk. Straight Talk has some phones that use Verizon and others that use different networks. We bought a phone that uses Verizon and his reception is much better than my VM.

The $30 auto pay is still available with Virgin MObile for Iphone's only.

My son just started a plan last month but has an android phone so that must be the difference. I did call and ask about the auto pay for $30 and they didn't even tell me it was for Iphone only, they just said there was no plan like that, but that is good to know.
