Old Orchard Beach, Maine

We drove up to Boothbay Harbor and went on a Seal Watch Cruise. It was much shorter.. about an hour or so.. much better for younger kids. We only saw seals in the water.. bummer.

I might get some gripe here but I think the Clambake is overated and a real tourist trap now. My mom grew up in Portland, and we go here all the time. I still have relatives in S Portand and Cape Elizabeth so I can remember the Clambake back when it was a little shack. I think the place( I can't remember its name now) over on the other side of off exit 4 is much better. I think there is a fake lighthouse near the restaurant. I usually don't eat out much because my cousin sets lobster traps and we get our seafood from him. YUMMY! Nothing like FRESH LOBSTER!!

Another Huot's lover. Best seafood in the area. There is also a small family run restaurant in Biddeford, 122 Hills Beach Road called Buffleheads, we love this restaurant.

Are these restaurants relatively easy to find? We'll be staying on the ocean fairly close to the Pier.

I agree that the Clambake is overpriced and touristy. We actually don't go for the food. It is OK, I don't eat seafood anyhow:p ! We go more for the touristy ambience. Love to sit in the back room oer the marshes and when the kids are done eating let them feed the seagulls the leftovers! The kids love it and so do I! Never done a whale watch, but I think if you go straight instead of turning to go to the Clambake and go to the end, not only can you catch some beautiful sunsets but you may also be able to get some info on a whale watch. Groceries at Hannaford's up on Rt. 1. I think there are some smaller spa type markets along the way though if you are only looking for milk. Ahhh 3 weeks from Satuday I will finally be on the beach, yeah!

this was the first year we didn't go(went to Disney instead!)
We usually stay at the Royal Anchor(about a mile north of the pier). This hotel is right on the beach! Next summer we are planning to rent a house for 2 weeks!!

Hey there! I did find this

Indian Whale Watch - Come aboard "The Indian", famous for its whale sightings of humpback, finback, minke and white sided dolphins. Also, sharks, seals and seabirds. Sailings seven days a week at 10:00am during summer months. Friday and Saturdays during fall season. All trips leave from Camp Ellis parking lot on Rte. 9 at the mouth of the Saco river. 985-5993

Camp Ellis Is down the road (**not walking distance**) from OOB. There is a great breakwater there as well as Huot's for great seafood. I haven't done the whale watch from there, we go out of Kennebunkport, but I hope this helps.
