Old Military Ticket

While going through her wallet, my wife states "I have an old ticket here that still has a day on it." I dismissed it, but gave it a second thought and sure enough it says doesn't expire. It looks to be from 2004 and is a 5 Day Military Park Hopper Plus. She got it with military friends long before we met. Neither of us are or have ever been military.

We currently are going down in 2 weeks with 6 day park hoppers that we planned to upgrade to APs. Any use for this old ticket now or advice?

It's worth asking at Guest Services or a Ticket window when you upgrade to APs. Its value (if it has one) cannot be used toward your AP upgrade (you can only use the value of one ticket toward an upgrade), but it might be a day to have at some point later, to save in MDE.

The current Armed Forces Salute program started in 2009, so I'd be interested to know what that ticket was and whether it has any value.

Can't hurt to ask about it. I don't know much about military tickets from before the current promotional program.

It has me thinking that only one us of may get the annual pass. I know Robo had talked about the value of a one day ticket somewhere on here. Currently, looking at a 2 6 day trips within a year. With the possibility of a 2 or 3 day party night trip. Any chance I could assign this to a child under 10?

Yes I believe at one time they were non-expiring. Take it to Guest Services!

I'm confused about what you mean by the "value" of a 1-day ticket. It could not be upgraded, so why would it be beneficial? I wouldn't count on anything until you check it out at guest services.

If neither of you are military, I wonder if you'd run into issues using it. They're very diligent about checking IDs when initially activating tickets, but I don't know how that would apply to this situation.

My thought (or wish :)) was that it could be upgraded. Not combined for an AP but upgraded on a later trip. Again no experience and no clue. Will check with guest services and update in a few weeks.

As it has been more than 14 days since first use (or possibly 6 months for FL resident tickets) you cannot upgrade a used ticket at all.

Guess I'm not the only one that has 14 year old items in their wallet/purse. :rolleyes1

Just responding to the mentions of "value of a one-day ticket."

The most costly WDW ticket sold (in relation to number of "days used") is a one-day ticket.
Therefore, by definition, the most costly ticket to own and use as-is, is a one day ticket.
There are many guests who have collected over the years several non-expiring tickets with just "one day left."
Those tickets cannot be upgraded, but they CAN be used, as-is (to enter a park for one day.)
But, if a guest were to actually use, say, FIVE of those single-day tickets during ONE TRIP,
that guest would have the potential of effectively "throwing away" hundreds of dollars in useful value.

1-Day MK base ticket- approx. value: $131-$137 (x 5 = $655-$685)
5-Day WDW base ticket - value: $420.68

That's what I mean by "value of a one-day ticket."

(And, no, the "old ticket" being discussed in this thread cannot be upgraded.)

If I were to use this ticket on a two day trip I would only be paying for one day ticket at $137 versus $222 saving $85.
If I were to use this ticket on a six day trip I would be paying for 5 day ticket at $420 versus $431 saving only $11

As a retired military member, I can tell that they will ask for a military ID when you try to use a military discounted ticket.

They only ask for military ID when first activating the ticket. Since this was a 5 day ticket that has 1 day left, it has already been activated and used. There should be no ID check at this point.

Well here today and while asked upgrading to annual pass asked guest relations to take a look at the ticket. He said “Good news. This ticket actually has two days left on it.” Gave us a card to use. To our surprise and delight he said it could be used by anyone we wanted to give it to. So mini trip in November will be cheaper for us. On a ticket like this could we add a day or two? Didn’t think of this until we left. Either way great news!

No you can’t add a day on a partially used ticket more than 14 days after first use.

Not necessarily true. At least with the current promo, once you’ve activated the ticket by showing your ID at guest relations the first time, they do not check IDs again. I’ve used the Salute tickets 1-2 a year since 2010 almost every year.

It seems like the OP is indicating that the ticket has been partially used, so the ID check would have been when the ticket was first activated or purchased.

They might, my Brother in law got us tickets, but he had to be present and activate the tickets him self.
