One of the ladies here just received a letter from WDW regarding her November trip to Old Key West. It seems the pool , the spa and the children's play area will all be shut down during her stay for refurbishment. She was really ticked off. She was spending $1,300.00 a night for a 3 bedroom suite and no pool!!! They did offer a shuttle bus to use the other pools but for that kind of money that was not acceptable. Finally, they were able to switch them to Saratoga Springs with a 2 bedroom suite and a studio. I know things need to be upgraded but to do all that at once, what were the kids supposed to do?

They are putting in a pool slide. See the DVC Discussion forum for more info or to ask questions. Your friend may want to look into renting points; it's a little complicated but she could save quite a bit of that $1300/nt.

The NO pool statement is way overstated. There are two quite pools that will still be open. Since the OKW main pool does not have a slide it's not a giant step down to the quiet pools.

Personally, there is no way in the world I am spending $1300 a night on anything! However, the OKW members will be thrilled to have a Grand Villa become available.

OKW has three quiet pools in addition to the main pool. One of the pools is pretty large and has a place to eat and a game room by it. I think all the pools have hot tubs as well, just no sauna. So it isn't like there will be no pools available during the remodel of the main pool.

It's too bad your friend wasn't able to check in here or the DVC board with some of the resident experts. The three bedroom Grand Villa at OKW is really rather spectacular and with over 2300 square feet, it is about 800 square feet larger than a 2 bedroom + studio at SSR. There is some construction going on at SSR as well, but not around the 4 existing buildings and the main pool area.

I think I would have stayed with the 3 bedroom grand villa at OKW. They are very spacious. There are three other pools with hot tubs and children's play areas at the resort. OKW is a very large resort and she could have requested to be near one of the other pools.

Personally we have never even swum in the main pool. Since it never had a slide when we have stayed there it was no big deal to use the quiet pool area we were closest too.

Ditto to the above posts.

OKW is our favorite place to stay. So much room. And in the 6 times we've stayed there, we've never used the main pool.

I hope your friend isn't sorry she switched...Saratoga Springs is lovely, but the living/dining area in the 2BR units are quite small compared to the 2BRs at OKW....dining table would seat 4 max (and that would be tight) with another 2 at the counter....the grand villas at OKW have 3 to 4 times as much living space (dining table seats 10 easily) and are VERY nice. The pool issue as the others have said to me isn't very significant....since the main pool really had nothing special in it anyways (no slides, fountains, etc) and all of the quiet pool areas except one have childrens play areas with them anyways.... The good news is nothing at Saratoga Springs is very crowded yet since so few units are open...then again, none of them are very close to the pool and play areas...not exactly what I would call walking distance, so they will have to hop a bus to the pool anyways.
