I just booked our first trip to OKW today for October 2012 We are not DVC members, but wanted the 2 BR villa for our 6-person party. In looking at the OKW map, are there certain sections that people would recommend? I wasn't sure if there were sections that were only for DVC members. Also, I see 4 pools on the map. Do they all have slides or are some of them just quiet pools? Any OKW hints would be much appreciated! pirate:

You'll love OKW. The Hospitality House area is reserved for members as far as I understand it. We stayed in Building 29 on Peninsular Rd and it was a nice location as far as we were concerned. A short walk to the bus stop, a short walk to the HH area, not too loud. The Peninsular Rd bus stop is usually the first stop on the bus loop around the resort so you're pretty much guarenteed a seat unless the stop is packed. If you happen to miss that bus, like if you see it pull up then pull away and can't get the driver's attention, you can just quickly hoof it over to the HH stop and try to catch the same bus there. You can see the HH area from the road, which is nice because you still feel like you're part of it but not right in it.

If you're after a quiet spot, you'll get a lot of other suggestions here. Everyone seems to have a favorite area.

As far as tips, there's a dvd player in the room so you'd be smart to bring some along, especially if you have little ones and want to keep them entertained in the room. You can rent some dvds at the community center in the HH area but I think they're a bit expensive. There's no food court per se... there's a counter service place and a sit down place, but the counter service only has seats outside and there's not many of them. If you plan on spending a lot of time in the room or not wanting to spend a lot on park food, put in a grocery order with something like Garden Grocer since you'll have the full kitchen. You'll also have the jacuzzi tub which is nice, but it takes awhile to fill up so keep that in mind (probably about 10 minutes). You'll have the laundry room as well, which was nice even just with 2 of us because I'd do small loads every couple days.

We were there in 2004 with a group of 8, ages 14-84 yrs young. We had a 2bdrm in building 23 near the Hospitality House, with a water view and near the Peninsular bus stop. We weren't disappointed. If you have some requests go ahead and make them although they are not guaranteed. Since we had an elderly person with us we wanted something close to a bus stop and also close to the Hospitality House. We were given 2 choices when we checked in- buildings 15 or 23. Looking at a map we thought 23 seemed closer to the Hospitality House so we chose that one. OKW sold us and in 2010 my sister became a DVC Member. The villa was spacious with a wonderful view.
Hope this helps you.

The only pool with a slide is the big pool near the Hospitality House. The others are quiet pools.

Olivia's has very good food and is easy to get in even without a reservation.

I think there are only a few buildings with elevators. We stayed there 4 times and always got stuck on the third floor. It only sucks when you have to drag your luggage up/down 3 stories.

If you plan to spend time at a pool, you can also try the Turtle Pond area. They have a very nice quiet pool and a good size snack bar. Since you're not DVC, you can't request the buildings right near the Hospitality House.

We like South Pointe, on the cul-de-sac, buildings 53-56. There is a nice basic pool and hot tub there and that bus stop is first in the morning so there's always a seat.

All of the buses stop at Hospitality House on the way in and out of OKW, so you can hop a bus when you want to go to the main pool area.

It's a beautiful resort, the landscaping is very mature and it feels so nice for us! It's calm and very resort-y. It's perfect for us, but we also love a family suite at All-Star Music, a cabin at FW and the Boardwalk. But the rooms at OKW are the best!!
