I’ve gifted my daughter and her bestie a trip to DW this summer. They will be staying at Old Key West. On arrival day they plan to drop the luggage at bell services and go straight to MK (they will arrive approx noon). I do understand that parking at this resort is in front of the building housing your room. But where do they leave the car if the room isn’t ready?

I assume you mean they'll drop off bags with Bell and then bus to MK? There's a small parking lot by the Hospitality House that will have some spaces open for something like that. When they return on the bus, they can get off at the HH stop, get their bags, and head to the room. Or drive to the room and have Bell bring the bags by calling. There's probably a couple dozen spaces at HH, often used by folks staying in a more remote building who want to dine at Olivia's and/or shop, use the pool, etc, at HH. They should be fine to park there.

This exactly! Thank you. I assumed there was somewhere they could leave the car, just wanted them prepared. Thank you!!

If unsure, just have them ask a cast member at Bell Services when they arrive. They'll show them the place to park, if needed.

I don't recall there being any kind of keyed lift gate to get back to the parking around the buildings. Couldn't one just park by one of the buildings and catch a bus at the nearest stop?

There's a security guard checking guests entering OKW, but they have no space for a keyed lift gate. Not sure I understand the question - are you thinking of entering OKW as a non-guest? The guard will check to verify you are staying or dining there.

But isn't the guard at the main entrance? There isn't a guard between HH and the buildings with the rooms. So once you tell the guard you are checking in and they waive you through, you are good to park anywhere.

Yes, the guard/security kiosk is at the main entrance. Once past the security kiosk, you can park at HH or near a bus stop. The bus does stop/pickup at the HH, but unless you're going to Disney Springs, I believe that HH is the last stop and often standing room only.

Sometimes HH parking is so full we've had to park across the street (on Millers Road) and walk to the HH.

You, of course, won't get your room number until the room is ready...but if parking it tight near the Hospitality area, they may be able to tell what general area your room will be in, and you could park there.

YMMV - I've not had luck in this. Even asking which building/area to park near has gotten a you have to wait response.

I've had them tell me the general area, not the specific building.

As long as you park near a bus stop, or even if you don't, you can always just get back in your car and drive back to HH. I don't think it really matters where you park.

I think there are a lot more parking spaces than that. That lot is fairly big.

As mentioned, even if the HH parking is crowded when they arrive, if the cast members don't yet have a room number or general area to give them, they can easily enough just drive to a parking area near a bus stop and park there - if their room ends up being in a different loop or road, just get off the bus, into their car, and drive to their building location. I'd recommend the two building loops off Peninsular Road...there's usually plenty of parking spaces on the side of the lot closest to the road, and they're very close to the Peninsular Road bus stop, which is the first stop coming back from the parks...making it very easy to relocate once they know their building coming back from the park.

Last summer, I went in and told them I knew our room wasn't ready but asked where to park. The cast member said, "Let's see if we can find a room that is ready" and he did! Of course, not guaranteed, but it was nice. We had checked out of SSR and moved over about 11 am.
