Old Key West Info!

Tell me everything about OKW! I am staying end of may for the first time! Anything that is special to old key west that we shouldn't miss? How is the pool? I requested canal view, is that a good thing?

OKW is our home resort, and we love it! I think the canal view is beautiful, you won't be disappointed. The pool area is nice, but there are better on property(I.E. Stormalong Bay). The rooms are huge, and the overall feel of the resort is relaxing and pleasant. I personally feel that it is the most "home like" of all the resorts.

We are owners at OKW, since 1992. We love it there. Rooms are some of the largest on the property, especially if you're in a 1 bedroom or larger unit. You may want to check out the DVC forum here, they have a resorts board and there is tons of info there about OKW.

I am staying here in January. Where do you fill up your mugs up? Does the golf course become annoying when trying to walk to the main building?

OKW is one of the hidden GEMS of WDW.
The main pool is great with a large sand slide and a hit tub ans.dry sauna.

There is a nice large pool at Turtle Craw...quiet , with a snack bar, beer and fruity drink bar and picnic tables and BBQ for family dinner BBQ.

Add to that 2 nice small quiet pools.

The rooms are the largest on property, wonderfully themed and landscaped.

The bus system runs though the resort with 5 stops and we have rarely had a problem.

I really like OKW. I have stayed there twice, both times in a 1br. The 1brs are awesome, they are the biggest out of all DVC properties. The pool is also great at OKW. You can also take a boat to DTDSprings, which is really nice.

You don't walk on the golf course at any of the resorts unless you are playing golf. At OKW there are plenty of sidewalks to walk on to get around. You fill up your mug at the Hospitality House and possibly the Turtle Shack if it is open. It might not be open in January or only open for short periods during the day. Refillable mugs aren't convenient at OKW especially since you can't take a full mug on the bus. And you might use the bus to get around the resort. Hop any bus to get to the Hospitality House; then take either the Internal Bus or walk over to the Peninsular Road bus stop to get back to your area.

There are four pools at OKW, neighborhood pools at Millers Road, South Point and Turtle Pond and the main themed pool at the Hospitality House.

Goods to Go is the poolside counter service at the Hospitality House. You won't find a food court at OKW. It's the original DVC resort and it was pretty much expected that guests would eat in their villas, not eat all their meals at a service window by the pool. There are some picnic tables outside to eat your food at Goods to Go, but it is nothing like a food court.
