SEE WAYNE'S POST RE POOL PARTY PAGE 2

With so many of us heading there in August I thought I would try a thread for random information which may be useful for first timers like myself. Maybe things like best (worst) buildings, pool hours, sun lounger availabilty, staff to look out for, ice machine location, etc etc etc

No tip too trivial!

Thanks in advance

hi kathy, can you find out which pool is nearest to a bar for the pool party??:rotfl2:
any info on SSR would also be greatfully received!
tracy

The gurgling suitcase is right by the main pool. They do great beers!

The slide in the pool (giant sandcastle) is much faster and better than it looks.

The homestyle hash at Olivias is great for breakfast and for those with a sweeter tooth the chocolate and blueberrie pancakes are awesome.

You get better views from higher floors but there are no lifts in most buildings.

No building is that far from a bus stop but it takes about 20 minutes to ride all the way around the resort.

Hey :) Good for you with the weight loss ticker - I need to start that but can't get going -- too cold!!

I just noticed that we are heading quite close to ADR time - very exciting!

Hmm, does anyone know if there are lifts at SSR?

Yes there are - the reason why there are none in the majority of buildings at OKW is because it is the oldest DVC resort.

In my opinion, Bldg 45 at OKW is a great building. We had a ground floor room there, overlooking the river to Downtown Disney. Was only about 10 minute walk to Hospitality House and a bus stop really near by.

The only drawback with OKW is the lack of decent counter service options.

I agree with this - but, if you have a car, the foodcourt at POR and Artist Palette at SSR are both good options (IMHO anyway! ) and are just next door.

Hi, we're just about to book for October and we were wondering if we were able to walk from OKW to SS along the waters edge?

Also, are you able to walk from OKW to Downtown disney? I know that many of you will think we're crazy after walking around the parks for most of the day and the walk will be over a mile (at least)! but we like to put the children in pushchairs and take a long walk in the evenings whilst they sleep! It also help burn off all those extra calories!

Thanks.

Yes and Yes, although not completely along the water's edge :)

Somewhere on the DIS DVC forums there is a thread with a detailed route descrition but I can't find it at the moment. This thread gives you some information though http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2228917&highlight=OKW+walkway

If you want to do this walk you would probably want to request a building at the end of OKW nearest SSR (and furthest from Hospitality House) as the walk from one end of OKW to the other can be quite a long way!

I think it is possible to do a circular route from OKW to SSR to DD and back to OKW.

Brilliant, thank you both very much for such promt replies, that has helped no end.

We stayed at SSR last year and have not stayed at OKW, but during my research into both of them I seem to remember that you could only walk into DD during daylight, for safety reasons. You may want to check this out.
We are choosing SSR again this year due to the lack of counter service. We did pay a visit during our stay & found the staff very friendly, one guy showed us around a studio then gave us a lift back to SSR.

We stayed in building 24 which was very close to the hospitality house and main pool. The staff in the community hall were great with the children. Pool area can get busy and there was a tendancy for people to reserve tables and chairs in the shade. However, there were always loungers available.

Love it keep it coming! The mousesteps website has nice pictures of the walks.

Would love to hear more about the Commumity House.

Thanks

Thought I would use this thread rather than starting another(hope you don't mind)

Anyone any prefference to dates for the August OKW pool meet? We are there 8th-28th, thought it might be best arranging a date before we all start making dining reservations next month.

I guess the main pool will be best so we are near to the Gurgling suitcase for anyone that wants drinks.

Any thoughts anyone?

We are hoping for 15 Aug-2 Sept but may spend a few days at RPR. Maybe from the 20th? We will try to fit in with whatever date it is as we would really like to do this.

Hmm, gutted to be missing this as we're there from the 11th September, feel free to leave us a tab behind the bar though so we don't feel left out!!!
