old hopper tickets

i hope im posting in the right place. we went last yr and we still have days left on our old tickets. my son, who turned 10 in july, only has 1 day left on his childs ticket. the rest of us have about 5 days left. we knew we would go back so we did more days. since he was going to turn 10 this yr we did him a childs tickets with less days. so he will need more days for our oct trip. my sister has a ticket left from her husband who didnt find the magic and doesnt care to go back. he has about 5 days left. we were going to use his ticket for a few days but wont need all that is left on there. i know with the new tickets its a finger scan. will they make the old tickets a finger scan too or can we use a few days off of it then give it back? my family liked the water parks most and my sister wont use them. this may open a can of worms, but yes, i do intend to use up his last day on his childs ticket even though hes 3 months over being a child. mostly i just want her water parks off of the tickets and maybe 1 disney day but i dont want it scanned to my son. thanks for the info in advance!

no flames from me--just our experience! We had old hoppers we used this summer for BB. When we put them in for the water parks they did ask us to finger scan, so they were identified with us. Good luck!

Just so you know- He is allowed to use his child ticket for the rest of his life as long as he used at least one day on that ticket before his 10th birthday.

We used old hopper tickets in March and did not have to finger scan. I hope this is not something new as I intend to hold onto my old tickets for the times that we have an occasional visitor with us who will be going to the parks for one or two days only.

thanks for the replys. CheapMom i did not know that about the childs ticket for life. it did bother me thinking i was cheating, but the tightwad in me had won out. now it wont bother me at all! i did not want him to have to lie if they would ask how old he is even though hes a short 10 yr old. shoot, now im kicking myself for not getting longer days!

Usually it is not good to do anyone a ticket with less days because he has an old ticket. You get very little value out of the old ticket that way and the tightwad in you will scream.

Your son should exchange the old ticket for an adult ticket (no charge) and save it for a short vacation later in his life.

For vacations of 4 to 10 days in the theme parks one new ticket should be done to span the entire vacation, and for 8 to 10 days non-expiration should not be purchased.

Perhaps someone else will chime in (we have APs), but I believe that the policy on old hoppers changed on June 1 and now ALL ticket media require a finger scan. We also have a bunch of old hoppers and don't even know what is left of which tickets. We will need to go to Guest Relations at a park or DTD or at our hotel to check all the tickets out. Looks like we will need to use the ones with lots of days for friends/family who will use the whole ticket.

Sadly, ALL tickets used now are linked to a single person. So you must be careful about how you use those extra hopper days.

Are you saying they are linking old hoppers (purchased before myw) to finger scan?
I was aware that all new tickets both parks and plusses were using the scan but I didn't think the old tickets would be.

we had old hoppers we used this summer. when we went to use them they replaced them with new tix that you use. when you use them you (if you are an adult) have to scan your finger and the "new" tickets are then linked to you. Honestly I didn't ask whether we HAD to get the tickets replaced. I believe you do though. A choice was not given

You mean Disney replaced the tickets right at the turnstiles or at guest relations.

I've got some hoppers with l day, 3 day, 5 day htat I wanted to use up.

at guest relations. and I asked to keep the old ones as souvenirs--they had stamped them void--but they said no, they had to account for what was replaced with the new. You may have better luck just using the old ones at the gate. Or they may reroute you over to guest relations at the park entrance and eat up time waiting in line and giving you the new ones.

We used old tickets in July and they did require us to use the finger scan for park days and add-on'sI do not know enough about computers to know if it was then tied to the ticket or if they were just having everyone go through the same process. i guess that I am little help.

We have many old tickets and I cannot even tell who's is who's. I guess that I will let Disney figure that one out when we get .

Are you saying that you did NOT have to exchange for a different ticket at Guest Relations? I would like to avoid a delay at the gate and get exchanging done before-hand if it is required.

We did not have to go to guest relations to get different tickets. We took the old tickets to the turn style. I think that they have a program to exchange child's tickets for adullt tickets if the child "outgrew" the child ticket. That needs to be done at guest relations though.

Tickets that already fit the turnstiles don't need to be exchanged, except for a person well over 10 finishing up his child ticket. Finger scans, if not already in effect, will be added when the tickets are next used.

so seashore you are saying if old hoppers go through like the did last year, they dont have to have a finger scan? i haven't been back since the finger scan started so i am a little confused how that works. if i use last years hoppers i just stick in with no scan. if i convert it over to the new ticket (add whats left on the old to a new ticket) it will be the new finger scan method. am i right or have i misunderstood you?

rereading again i think you mean if they dont have a finger scan, no matter old or new, they will the next time they are used. i over analyze things to much.
