I've been doing some decluttering and found a couple of old Disney & Universal guidebooks. I'm assuming most people do their "real" research for trips on the internet now, but I'm not sure if folks still use them for other stuff (read them for nostalgia's sake, give them to their kids to play with, cut out the maps for scrapbooking...:confused3)

Would you donate them to the library's charity book sale or just toss them? (If you might donate them, what year would be your cut off?)

TOSS.
I'm sure they are extremely outdated with how quickly Disney in particular changes their way of doing things.
And I don't think people really want them. If you want to see if someone wants them to scrapbooking and nostalgia then you're better off posting them on ebay for a cheap price than donating them.

I have them going back too, they make me smile, I get immersed in the sweetness of the memories. Not too long ago someone was on here was looking for an old one as a wedding honeymoon keepsake so maybe you can sell them of ebay? People collet all sorts of things

If the editions are a few years ago, the library may throw them out if you decide to donate them. I know my local library will toss out books they have a lot of copies of, if they're in VERY bad condition or if they're very outdated due to lack of space on the shelves. Your options would be to sell on a site like eBay if they're in good condition (aka not falling apart) or throw them out.

I have an early 90's Birnbaum tucked away on a bookshelf in the basement. It's a memento of a truly awesome trip DH and I took as still relatively newlyweds.
Same!
Ours is from the first trip we went as our little family - DH, DD2 (she's 26 now) and me.
This book is going no where - it's super special to me.

To answer your question Polly - if the books hold no sentimental value I'd just toss them unless you know someone that does scrapbooking (that's a great idea to use the books for the pictures and such). I'm in a real throwing away mode at home though, so it doesn't take much for me to throw something away lately - LOL!!

Could the library possibly have a use for them themselves?

Toss. All the info is outdated, and our library rejects them as archaic and not worthy of the shelf space.

It depends how old they are. I've been collecting old Birnbaum's guides to WDW and Disneyland going back into the 80s and 90s to read about what was there back then, menus that restaurants had, things like that. If your guides are from the 80s and 90s, PM me and I'd be interested in taking them off your hands! If it's from the 00s onwards, I'd probably donate them to a library and let them decide whether they want to put it on their shelves or sell at a used book sale.

LOVED the Unofficial Guide back in the day. "ARRIVE EARLY! ARRIVE EARLY! ARRIVE EARLY!"
The BEST tip I got from on there was to go counter clockwise and to not go straight in for the characters, it is a big time drain better spent on rides while other people are gummed up.
