Old Fashioned Driving Licenses?

Hi everyone.

I am getting into full planning mode for our August trip and was wondering if anyone has had any issues with car hire and the 'old' paper licenses lately.
Both DH and I still have the old type without pictures.

I was wondering if anyone had had any probs with car hire when using one?

Is it worth getting (one of us at least?) a photo license?

We are doing VH Alamo Car hire if it makes any difference, and will prob do online checkin before we go, so maybe no-one will even need to see them!?!

Wouldn't have thought you would have any issues however we find the photocard very handy as they accept them for ID.

They are much stricter on ID for alcohol plus they sometimes ask for ID when making a purchase by card.

Exactly same as above, you should have no problems but I use mine for photo ID almost every day, far easier than carrying my passport around.

DH and I both still have our old paper ones too. Never had any issues with them in the US or in Europe.

If anyone has had any bad experiences using old fashioned licences I'd like to hear them...

Will consider getting new ones for photo ID though, as, yes, I don't really want to take passports everywhere....

FAR too scary....Terrified of losing them at the best of times!

I mentioned this thread to DH, as we still have the old ones and we do carry our passports with us.

DH reminded me that should someone need emergency medical treatment, they usually have to produce a passport as evidence of identity. We know from our own experiences in the US and in Europe.

I'm hoping no-one reading this finds themselves in that particular situation, but it might be worth thinking about
