The second level isn't a second level people mover it is The astro orbiter that has the ships that go around like dumbo. You can see people waiting in line for the ride in the picture. It is still there and alot of fun especially at night. :thumbsup2

I've only ever seen the elevator going up to AO. That's pretty cool that they accessed it via the peoplemover!

I don't think they come donw via people mover, if that what you are saying.

The stairs you see from the people mover to astro orbiter are emergency stairs if the elevator stops working.
They don't let you use the stairs at all otherwise.

The only way to and from the people mover is by the goodyear tire ramp.
They only way to and from the astro orbiter is the elevator.

Well I learned two things going through this entire thread:
The swan boats are a lot bigger than I imagined them to be.
The Astro Orbitor used to be a rocket.

It's funny I came across this thread as my mother-in-law just sent me this picture today:

It's her with her mother and siblings in 1971, there only trip to WDW until she went with us earlier this month. Nothing like 38 years between trips to make you appreciate a trip to the Magic Kingdom! :lmao:

After three days of several hours each, I have now read every post, followed every link, and seen every picture! I shared many with other members of my family too. I must say this is my favorite thread ever on this site! Many, many thanks to all of you who have taken the time to dig up pictures, scan them, edit them, and post them!!!!!! Kudos! I now not only want to dig up my old Disney photos, but this has made me realize how urgently I need to scan in all my old photos, mine and my dad's old slides, and his old photos dating back from the 1930s. He always said slides held up the best, and I believe it. Thank you again, all of you, for this trip down memory lane and the push to get going on my own photos!

OneTreeHillAddict - there are many who still want to know how you got into RC to get those pictures.

I love seeing those photos of the park from the 70's. It's really cool to see how WDW looked in it's start! Also, the fashions are fun to look and laugh at! :rotfl2:

I love this thread! To be able to reminisce about the good old days has brought tears to my eyes! Thank you to all that have posted their photos. My family did not take many pics when we were young, but if I find any I'll be sure to post a few. Going to start calling the family now... ;)
