Meeting Donald for the first time. I'm the one crying hysterically.

After Donald, I clearly don't want anything to do with Minnie.

Happy birthday, Donald!

1979 - Can't remember if I posted this one before or not but this one always puzzles me a bit. That bridge in the background is long gone; must have disappeared with the building of Big Thunder Mountain RR.

IMG0010-L.jpg

I think that bridge is still there.... it's just hidden now behind Big Thunder.

It looks like the Riverboat is docked just off the Rivers Of America in the little canal that connects with the Seven Seas Lagoon. The Bridge is the railroad tracks over the canal.

These days the exact spot the boat is tied up is where Big Thunder meets the water. (I think I usually see a tom sawyer raft or 2 tied up in the general area).

The bridge is no longer that same shade of blue, but if you look to the left of your forward motion on the riverboat as you pass big Thunder you can still see the bridge crossing the canal . Personally, i've always noticed the mechanism under the bridge where they can rotate it out of the way to allow a boat to pass. i've always wanted to see them move the bridge.

That REALLY brings the memories like a tidal wave! Am I the only one who had a habit of asking CMs for direction to the Peoplemover when they changed it to the silly Tomorrowland Transit Authority? And this was around 1996!

Thanks for the info DCTooTall. I will have to look carefully when I'm down there in June. Things certainly have changed in how that area looked.

Finally got some scanning done. The quality is terrible on these really old ones, but it gets better once DH takes over with his 35mm in the 80s. :worship:

These skyway pics don't compare to the PP, I think they were taken with an old Polaroid. :lmao:

River Country :woohoo: We actually lucked into a soft opening for this when we were camping (in a tent) at Ft Wilderness. The next week at home, we saw a picture of President Ford's daughter at the official opening.

Love the train and 20,000 Leagues pictures!

And you might be surprised at how a photo editing program such as Photoshop Elements or the free Picasa helps recover old photos. I used Elements to improve many of my old, darker pictures.

Thanks for the tip. DH has Elements on his laptap. Hmmmm, I feel a project coming on. Stay tuned. ;)

I've already got a bunch more loaded. Not as old, but a little better quality.

Judging by my daughter's size, I think this is the 1st year that MGM was open (1989).

I believe this was mid to late 80s. For Halloween, this truck was loaded with monsters/villains. Quite a difference from today's MNSSHP. They weren't even the Disney villains.

Golden Horseshoe Revue used to be "the" hot ticket in the MK. You had to go 1st thing to get your reservation or you didn't get in.

These were taken from our balcony in Contemporary Tower. We only stayed there twice, once in 82 and once in 85 so it was 80s anyway.

Just thought I would share on here an 8mm film my dad shot of Disneyland back in Aug. 1967. My parents visited Disneyland (and CA) for the first time that summer. The footage isn't perfect, but he really captured all the main highlights. What a year to go and see the 'new' Tomorrowland!

Disneyland 1967

Would love to see other people's old footage. If you have links, do share! :thumbsup2

I love this thread by the way! LOVE it!

It's great to see people contributing so much lately.

I especially love the Captain Hook photo and lights from the Contemporary but honestly every photo and the old films are wonderful too!

Thanks all and this is the best thread I agree!!!

Looks like it was May 14, 1990 according to the time stamp in the lower left corner of your pics :)

But back then they also printed the date the photos were developed so this date could be misleading. I have hundreds of pictures with dates months after the actual event shown.

I believe we went in April of 90. I think the park opened at the end of May in 89, so we caught it just about a month before 1 year anniversary. I have to agree thought that back in the "good old film" days, the stamp was when the processing was done. DH took so many pictures that we kept a bag in the freezer (don't ask me why) and during the winter when we didn't have so many, we would just pull a couple of random rolls and get surprised. I had forgotten all about the freezer bag until this thread. Thanks for the reminder! :thumbsup2

This was waiting for the character breakfast on the Empress Lilly riverboat at Disney Village. They gave us a pop-up card of the boat along with a button, certificate, and pennant. It was sometime between 1980 and 1984.

The little nook that used to divide the blocks where the emporium expanded. They used to have white iron flower wagon and benches. It was a nice photo spot.

When it used to be Communicore East and West, there was a robot at EPCOT that would draw your picture. This is my daughter's portrait.
OldDisneyScans015-1.jpg

Before Push or the talking water fountain, there was GERO, the Horizons robot. My daughter gave him a big kiss because her grandfather and I were GE employees. We used to go up in the hospitality room for refreshments. They had a live video camera mounted on the roof that you could control remotely from inside to get a look around EPCOT. Then they would give you an escort to a private entrance to the ride.
