Old cool whip!

Breakfast of champions.

Can you verify any of these claims about it being "liquid plastic" or that the body can't digest it?

While I'll be the last to tell anyone that cool whip tastes good, or is good for you, a simple read of the ingredients label suggests that it's pretty well perfectly digestable. It's just crap, like many other junk foods.

It's one thing to not like something, but outright false claims are another.

Agree with both of these. While I would agree cool whip certainly has preservatives, plastic is not one of them.

I love the "plastic" comments, and the video of Cool Whip turning hard as a rock.

Doesn't phase me, and I'll tell you why:

My MIL makes her brownies from scratch. We had a piece on a plate wrapped with Saran Wrap on top of our fridge. Somehow, DH pulled the fruit basket in front of the plate, and the brownie sat there for days.

When I found it, it was pretty much a rock solid, petrified block of a brownie - but looked just fine. And it was 100% "natural".

(No, we did not eat it ;) )

My DD is a Chemical Engineer..I think this must be somewhat like soft margarine. She told me that is 1 molecule away from being plastic. Cool Whip sounds to be formulated the same....

That's from a blog I like reading. There's a video on it called "whats' inside" or something (should be the first video that's there and ready to play). Kinda goes over the ingredient list. Keep in mind this is an extreme. Obviously the ingredients aren't PREPARED the same way as the anti-freeze or whatever he uses and are clearly safe for human consumption, but I always found this video kinda amusing.

My remark was more so directed to the 'plastic' comment than seeking relevance! As for "untrue" they did labs whilst in University that did in fact conclude that to be the case. :confused3

They did labs that concluded it was one molecule away from plastic? Did they do labs that concluded it was plastic, because if not, then one away from doesn't really mean anything.

I have a degree in plastics. Methyl Cellulose in McDonalds shakes is technically a type of plastic. Doesn't stop them from being awesome.

My poor DS10 ate some cool whip that has been in the fridge since Thanksgiving on his waffle this morning. Hope it won't make him sick now  Feel bad for not getting rid of it a long time ago. It looked and smelled ok and he said it tasted fine but he also doused it with chocolate syrup too. Feeling guilty:guilty:

As long as it's chewable it edible :thumbsup2

It is not dairy.
It is not really a food.
It is not really even perishable.

Personally, I will never, ever, put that stuff in my body.

But it taste so good :cool1:

It can't go bad -- it isn't food. I have never eaten Cool Whip or given it to my children or grandchildren. It is liquid plastic and I doubt that there is anything in it that your body can even digest. Awful stuff. And I've been around since the days before it came out.

Not digestable?
Which brings up the question where does it go ?

If you really want to attack a non food I'm eating Red Hots candy as I'm reading this. Oh and washing it down with beer.

I would be more concerned that my kid ate waffles with cool whip and chocolate syrup for breakfast than the fact that the cool whip was a few months old ;)

Cool whip is pretty gross, I don't even think it tastes edible and the ingredient list is scary. Just make some fresh whipped cream or at least by the redi-whip in a can

I don't really get your point. Fresh/made from real ingredients foods DO go stale. They don't have the preservatives in them that keep them fresh, but are not healthy.

Seriously, would you eat an egg that sat out on the counter, or a cheeseburger that sat out for 3 days?

Some things just don't keep when left out.

If it's made from corn, dent corn - which is what most oils and sweetners are, then anything is one away from plastic as it's also used to make plastic. In anycase almost nothing in dent corn is digestable until it is processed.

You can do down every grocery store aisle and mark it all as being plastic.

Eggs actually don't need to be refrigerated, especially if they are fresh organic eggs. Poor quality eggs should be refrigerated though

Regardless of whether Cool Whip is "bad" from the moment it is made, I must say that I have seen moldy Cool Whip . So apparently it can go bad since mold thinks Cool Whip is food.

But I guess mold also thinks caulk is food. So maybe Cool Whip isn't really plastic, but is really fluffy caulk?

On a related subject, I've seen moldy Twinkies, too.

I still occasionally eat both Cool Whip and Twinkies. But not the moldy varieties.

My point was supposed to be that the brownies were natural, yet didn't mold and only turned rock hard, and the Cool Whip was full of preservatives, yet didn't mold and only turned rock hard.

Exactly the point I was getting at... I'd be more than a little interested to see how they "tested" and found that it was "one molecule away", as that could have many meanings. More to the point though, as you've stated, as was also in the link I provided, "one away" doesn't necessarily mean anything, as it become a completely different substance.

Wow! What have I started?popcorn::
Happy to report that my ds did NOT get sick from the old cool whip:goodvibes

:scared1: I absolutely, positively, did NOT think that was even possible. :scared1:

Regarding Cool Whip, I'd have to say that it's better than food.
