we are staying here this Sept.

I want to know what the building close to the Publix (back road) are. I looked on the map but I can't tell from the map? :goodvibes

I think I want one of them vs a better view.

Or on the first floor.

I hate first floor - but mother will be 83 and can't do the steps easily.

I want easy access because my brother and his family are staying at another resort.

There are no units by the Public Market at the other entrance on 192...they're offices and little shops.

I would contact OLCC and let them know about your Mom...or when you check in, be sure and tell them that she cannot manage a second story unit, because of the stairs.

The first floor units have a wonderful patio and depending on where you are -the view will vary. The high rise units...they all have screened patios and have elevators, so no stairs are involved. It would just depend on how far she can walk from the car. All in all, if she has problems walking, a ground floor unit would be ideal. They do have handicap units...if you need one of those it would be wise to let them know ahead of time.
If you wanted to be near Public, because you don't have a car or something, then I would suggest you try and request a unit close to the West Village Clubhouse...it's near the pool, little store, clubhouse and activities. They do have a shuttle that runs throught the complex, but some of the bus stops where you wait for it are a little walk from the units. If you're handicap - they will pick you up at your unit, on their scheduled run.
I hope this information helps. Have a good trip. Barb in Texas

I think Spicycat has a car, he normally stays offsite. I can sent you a map of the resort. It's somewhat a tossup whether the villas in the North Village or the East Village is closer to Publix using the East Welcome Gate. The West Village and the Tennis Villas are definitely further away. Barbara is correct, there are no units directly next to Publix. The East Welcome Gate is a quicker way to the North Village and the East Village than going through the main gate. In some of the DVC conferences, there are comments about the time and size of walking around SSR but OLCC really rquires a car. It is around 2 miles from the main gate to my East Village villa (guard at the main gate quoted that it is 1.7 miles from the main gate to the stop sign at the entrance to the East Village). I will be there from August 26 to September 9.

thank you both.

so north village or east, if possible, and yes unless it has an elevator I will need a first floor.

I got her a handicapped room once at OKW - the toilets are higher and she was complaining about that the entire time. Plus the curtains on the shower instead of the stall.

we will be there later Sept 10-17 - this is fall break for Henry countries schools in Georgia.

Spicey;
I know that there are handicap rooms as one of the models is a handicap room. I believe that the two-and-three bedroom units in the North Village don't have elevators. I believe they are configured with 3 or 4 units on the ground level (3-bedrooms units at each end and one or two 2-bedroom units in the middle) with 2 two-bedroom units one floor up. The East Village units are all hirise with elevators located in the center of the building. In the West Village, the units are all, I believe, are on ground level except for the Tennis Villas which are hirise units. The pictures of the rooms shown on www.olcc.com are accurate so they should give you an indication of the units.
