We normally stay in a 2bdrm @ the BCV but they are booked for "Jersey Week". I am usually on top of things with the rooms at the BCV but I am totally in the dark as far as OKW. Where are the closest rooms to the Bus stops....and is it better to stay in the "middle" of the stops (there are 5?) so that either coming or going you don't have too many stops? What is the best pool for kids 5 kids 2-14? Are some 2brms better than others? I need help from some OKW experts! Thanks!

There are very few bad locations or units or buildings or views at OKW. No matter where you are, you will only be a quick walk or bus ride away from any pool or the main pool. Your children will want to visit the main pool at least a time or two for the slide and the big sand icon area for the youngest one. ANY bus will get you there, so if you don't wish to walk, or if you are at the oposite end of the resort, you only need to wait for the next bus (no matter where it is going) and get on and then get off at HH to visit the main pool.

In nearly 25 OKW stays, we don't request anything other than non-smoking for medical reasons. We have only had one unit that wasn't our favorite, and that wasn't awful either. Our favorite buildings are based mostly on convenience and views. Because most units are going to be a fairly close walk to a bus stop ( a few exceptions here), there really is not GREAT advantage to being closer to one or another. Our favorites are buildings 55, 45, 46, 16, 13, 21, 15, and 18. Our least favorite building is 29. If you want to be assured of no noise from above, ask for an upper floor. If you will have anyone sleeping in the living room, you will want to ask for a building 30 or above, because those buildings 29 and under do not have a door into the bathroom from the living room. Being on the first floor under a GV can be an issue too, because the hardwood floors in the kitchen/dining room of the GV are above the second bedroom, and the chairs moving around can be annoying. I will attach the map for you convenience.

We've been pretty happy with all of our stays. But our favorite buildings are 23-26. It is right by the Peninsular bus stop which is often the first stop of the resort. And it is a very short walk to the Hospitality House.

I'm looking for it all.............which building is closest to the HH, bus stop, and it a 2 bedroom villa? I'd love to be able to see the ferry going by too!:)

Well, if you look at that map, you can see that buildings 13 & 14 are closest to HH, but are NOT on the canal, so any of the buildings from 23-29 would probably fill that request if you don't mind standing in the parking lot to see the canal. Bear in mind that none of those buildings will have the second door to the bathroom, and two of them are GV buildings that could mean a 2 bedroom might be below them on the first floor. The only buildings that give you a good view of the canal from the units are 45, 46, 56, 55.

Looking for it all too...I printed my map and reread the posts, making little notes as I went along. I love Dianeschlits suggestion for the canal view 45, 46, 56, 55. Now let me ask you, is this canal the only place you can see watercraft of any kind, or is it strictly for the ferry to DTD? I would love a canal / lake/ waterever view if I could see some activity, mousecrafts, peddle boats, anything.

However, my family will be moving slowly for many reasons, and can't imagine the trouble it would be to have to get on a bus to refill a soda or go for a quick splash. (Maybe we are pool snobs, but the quiet pools don't work for us either) I've never stayed at a resort of this size before. Well, once, and maybe the reason for my concern, we tried the Cabins at Fort Wilderness once - very nice by the way- but the bus system scared us off and we switched after one night.

I guess the more I write we seem really high maintenance, and maybe we are. Just looking for the best solution for my family. We all want it to be as magical as it can...

How often do the busses come? Is it the standard 20 minutes that it can be to get to the parks, or do they run more frequently?

Is this the map they give you when you check in?

Ideally, we have a studio and would love to have a great view. I assumed the view I would enjoy the most would be the ferry passing by, but what other options are there? Can you see the main pool from any of the rooms? It seems removed by the canal and a road from 26 and 27. We also would love to be as close to the food and shops as possible.

:scared1: I would be willing to give up the view for convienence. Any additional thoughts would be welcomed!

How far of a walk is it from building 45 to HH? Is it bearable with a 3 yr old? Does building 45 have 2 bedroom villas?:confused3

Given that you live in Lewes, I'm guessing you get out and about and walk a decent amount. If so, you won't find the walk from Bldg 45 to HH bad at all! And, a 3 yr. old can do it too (mine was a month shy of 3 yrs old on our last stay in Bldg. 55 and only once or twice did she request her stroller).

All buildings have 2 bedrooms I believe. I'm not sure if all have dedicated 2 bedrooms, if that matters to you.

All buildings have studio/1 bedroom lock offs, and dedicated 2 bedroom units and the ones so marked on the map have 3 bedroom grand villas.

For the OP, if you are staying in a studio, don't get too hung up on view. Mostly your view will be of vegetation, and the studios are always on the ends of the buildings, so may not have the full view of the golf course, ponds, canal etc. The only buildings where you will likely have any view of the canal from a studio are 45, 46, 55, 56 and possibly 26, 28, and 29. I don't reccomend 29 though, because it is a GV building, and if you are in a ground floor studio, you COULD be on the end by the road or you could be on the other end which is hemmed in with heavy vegetation.

I don't know how I missed it, but there is an awesome map, different than this posted of OKW in the 2007 passporter. I wish I could scan it in for you guys, I really thought it was great.

In looking at it, It seems like 62 might fill our bill. Need to be close to HH, 3rd floor prefered with a bit of a view would be wonderful.

Maybe a bit better than the u shaped 14?

All this assuming I even have a say in the matter....our flight lands at 6pm. Any chance of getting a room request at that hour?

Made ADR for Olivias arrival evening. Anything else we should check out at the resort while we are getting familiar?

Building 62 has an okay view, but if you are in a studio, you could be right next to the road, and that is a rather noisey location because it is close to the inbound driveway, but directly across the street from HH. I think the map makes the distances look farther than they actually are. We find the walks from even 15 and 29 to seem close to HH.

We've stayed in Building #62 3 times; there is a nice view of the water. I like the convenience of being by the HH and buses. The boat to DTD is also nearby. To tell you the truth, I never heard any noise. No one else in the Family complained of noise either.

I guess when you're with 3 to 4 boys, you just don't hear any outside noises!!! LOL! :lmao: Now that I think of it, the next time I go to OKW, I will request building #62.

With that many in your party, you were NOT in a studio though. My comment referred to studios only, since they are the ones on the end of the building near the driveway. Noise will NOT be an issue if you are in the interior of the building.

We were in a 2 BR unit each time, Lockoffs twice and dedicated once. On one occasion, we actually did have the studio portion of the building on the end ... It was on the 1st floor when the buildings first opened. (Dec 1999?) You may be right, this was the end Unit on the right as you face the building. It may have been quieter there. On the other occasions, we were on the second floor near the street corner, but not the last Unit.
To some, it may be noisy, but not to me!:goodvibes

However, it remains one of my favorite buildings!

I honestly think you should take the luck of the draw the first few times you stay at Old Key West. there are so many fantastic areas that each have a different set of "pluses." Give several areas a try and you'll see what makes sense for you.

I totally agree! We used to always request South Point, and while it is still my favorite area, I have not found any truly BAD places at OKW. We don't particularily like building 29, but I'd stay there again if I had to.
