Just flew back this afternoon from a super, albeit soggy, weekend at OKW.
I left on Thursday morning and flew NWA with a minor delay in takeoff and a bit of a delay in landing at MCO due to weather. My friends had already arrived and were waiting for me by the "big board" in the main terminal. My one friend drove down from Pensacola, so we had a car and once we picked up my luggage, we were on our way.
It was raining, no make that POURING, all the way to OKW. We arrived to a smiling "Welcome home" at the guard shack and appreciated it every time we came "home"! That rocks!!
Check in went smooth and with a few "giggles" due to the fantastic CM. Marcie at the front desk. She is awesome and has a super sense of humor. While my friend and I were checking into our separate villas, she asked me if I was staying on my "son's points"
I said "EXCUSE ME, but do you really think I am his "mother"? She caught her mistake and apologized and we had a wonderful laugh out of it..since my friend is almost MY age! The next day I got a beautiful cheese and cracker basket from her and a card that told me I was *every youthful* Marcie ROCKS! Love ya kid!!!
We were in building 39 by the pond. We had requested a room by the quiet pool so we were not too disappointed with our rooms. This was my third visit to OKW and we all had studios. Everything was in ship shape but my only complaint is the height of those beds and the fact that they have those wood frames. I have a bruise on the back of my leg from whacking into the side of that bed a few times! The room ROCKED!
After we checked in on Thursday some of our group headed to DD to go see a movie while I waited for a local friend to show up after work. We decided on dinner at good ole POR (aka DIXIE to those of us who can't give up the name). We then headed to DD for some shopping and a snack at McD's Hey we are on vacation!
Did I mention it was raining?
Friday had us sleeping in. Girls do need our beauty sleep! We then enjoyed coffee in the room and headed back to DD for some power shopping! Lunch was at the Pantry. Did I mention it was POURING?
We headed back to the room and watched some videos (one of the members of the group brought her VCR and we hooked it up to the TV. We were getting hungry and decided that we would head over to the food court at CRB. Did I mention it was RAINING?
The PLAN was to do e-ticket night on Friday, but because of the fact that it was POURING, we decided to do the resort monorail loop and stop and shop and snack (hey we were on vacation!) at each resort. It was more fun than I thought it would be!
Saturday morning we slept in (picking up a pattern here?). Breakfast errr, maybe it was lunch
was in the room and then it was off to visit MY home resort BCVs. We visited with the guide Vickie there (what a great sense of humor she has!) and then lunched at Beaches and Cream. (Hey we are on vacation!) We were told it was going to be a 30 minute wait and what that boiled down to in "disney time" was about 4 mintues or enough time to run to the ladies room. Then it was off for a walk to EPCOT and send an e-postcard to a friend at home. Did I mention it POURED? We were so soggy by then we decided that we needed a new plan...that and another vacation! We went to DD and saw Finding Nemo and we learned how to speak "WHALE"! We are easily amused! Nemo ROCKED!
When we came out of the movie...IT STOPPED RAINING! We headed over to Fantasia Gardens for golf. I wish it had RAINED then, too. I totally stink at mini golf and amused myself by talking "whale". Cherabog ROCKED!
It was then off to some exploring off site for a late night snack (hey we are on vacation) For some unknown reason, we ended up at a Denny's...just for the fun of it. When we came out....it was RAINING!
The last night was a late night chat session and we talked into the wee hours of Sunday.
Sunday we woke up. Guess what? IT WAS RAINING! By this time, who cares? I was going home to Michigan where it was sunny and 85 degrees and housework was waiting! YECH!
We packed up the rooms, headed to MCO and got there in time for our flights. My flight back home was smooth and uneventful!
All it all it was a SUPER Trip even if we only spent about an hour in a park all weekend. That is what I LOVE about the flexiblity of a DVC ownership and the purchase of an AP. We managed to have a super time, even if it did rain. It was a great time for some old friends to just enjoy each other's company without the constraints of "what are we gonna go on next?"
Our next trip is already planned. We are heading down July 31 - Aug 10 to BCVs. Vero and OKW and Drum Corp finals. This time we bring the families with us...BUT the girls have a spa day planned at SSR!!!!!
