Can't decide between OKW or SS. We will have a car so transportation is not a problem. Our party consists of DS3, my mom 67, DH, my stepdad, my sister and myself. Thanks for your help.

They're both lovely, but we prefer okw.

The ambience, olivias, just the feeling of being there was magical.:thumbsup2

I've stayed at both, and both are gorgeous so you really can't go wrong, BUT I love OKW! Rooms are bigger, more spacious and I love the layout. More like a condo should be. However, I do prefer the pools at SSR. Hope this helps.

I prefer OKW. SS seems too huge for walking around and OKW seems quieter and more intimate. I love OKW.

SS doesn't appeal to me at all; it looks like hundreds of other places you could stay in all kinds of other locales. At least OKW has some decent theming.

We've never stayed at SS, but have stayed at OKW twice - once in a 1 bedroom and this last trip in a 2 bedroom. I have to vote for OKW - the 2 bedroom was huge and there would be plenty of space for your family to spread out. I don't know about SS, but there are only a couple of buildings with elevators at OKW, so I would request ground floor (OKW buildings are 3 floors). Climbing up 3 flights of steps after a day in the parks is hard, especially if you're lugging a stroller (we weren't, but saw several families wishing they were on a lower floor).

If walking stairs is an issue, OKW does not have elevators in all of it's buildings like SSR does. I know my Dad could never handle walking up 3 flights of stairs every time we came back to the room, so we have always stayed at SSR when we need a 2 BR.

It truly is what you prefer. Old Key West is themed as it is says, the Key West of the past.

SSR, is very much a replica of Saratoga Springs, NY. Certainly not an area that some are not familiar with so it gets labeled as having no theme. The theme is definitely there just not recognizable by some. We found it to be lovely, quiet and beautifully done. I love the decor of the rooms.

Buses are good at both locations. I personally don't drive to any parks from there.

Both have boats to take to you Downtown Disney, though from SSR you can walk.

As to the pools, SSR wins hands down. They have 3 fabulous interactive themed pools and OKW only has the one. OKW has smaller quiet pools but no interactive kid's water features at those.

SSR has two pools with slides, OKW has the one.

OKW has larger rooms.
but we greatly prefer SSR for many reasons: dining options (turf club is excellent), decor, quiet beauty. OKW feels more like a standard co-op to us (parking, with noise & fumes, is right outside your door). SSR feels more like a vacation.
btw, we've seen a bald eagle and lots of smaller wildlife in our walks at SSR (it is a beautiful resort to walk through).

my opinion: try one now, and the other another time so you can find your personal preference :)

You really can't go wrong with either location. As long as you don't want a hotel type atmosphere, you will be fine either place.

Stayed at OKW last year and really liked it. The room wasn't fancy by any stretch, it was a little worn, but the beds were comfortable, the space was good, the kitchen was functional and the balcony overlooking the river was really nice. The stairs were not a problem at all, honestly I am a bit surprised people complain about them so much. Obviously if you have any sort of disability it would be an issue but any other family should be able to walk up three short flights of stairs without any issue (and yes, we carried a double stroller up and down them). We spent one day at the pool, which my kids loved. When we first arrived at the pool we thought we'd be there a couple of hours, tops, but they started a fun pool party and my kids had a blast all day long. The general atmosphere was really nice, my kids loved seeing the geckos in the gardens. Took the boat to DTD once, it was a really fun ride, otherwise we had a car. I don't think I'd stay there without a car, but I am not a bus kind of person.

I can't comment on SSR as I have never stayed there. However, we were originally booked there but switched to OKW because they had the sleeper chair and SSR does not. I wanted all 3 of my kids in their own bed in the 2nd bedroom and knew I'd be able to move the sleeper chair in there but not a sleeper sofa. So, the availability of the sleeper chair ultimately made our decision for us.

Please don't move the furniture to other rooms. With the vinyl flooring at OKW, you are sure to tear the floor trying to move the heavy sleeper chair.

My husband and I lifted it and carried it. We didn't drag it. It wasn't that heavy. We're not idiots. Not a mark on the floor. Lots of dust bunnies under it, though, so I did them a favor allowing them to clean under it, it was desperately needed.

Sounds like you moved the chair in a responsible manner...just like I assumed you did when I read your post.

When I am in the room, I prefer OKW. When I am walking around or at the pool, I prefer SSR.

We've stayed at SSR twice. The CMs there are so friendly. The food court is good. The gift shop is really nice. My daughter enjoyed the pool and I enjoyed the spa. The rooms are comfortable.
