My wife and I are planning a vacation to Disney with our three children. We have been there before and stayed at the Boardwalk. We are considering OKW but I am concerned about the transportation from OKW to the Theme Parks. Any experiences would be appreciated or links to ongoing threads.

Transportation to parks is via bus. In all our stays at OKW we've found the service to be regular and efficient. There are 5 stops located throughout OKW. Check this link for map to have a look where stops are located

Transportation to Downtown Disney and Saratoga Springs Resort is via boat.

We have stayed at OKW a couple of times, we never seemed to wait more than 5 min for any bus.

This is a silly question. When you are waiting for a bus, how do you know which park it is going to? Or do they just head to all the parks? The whole bus/monorail/boat thing is very confusing at WDW. Is there a place that has a nice organized explanation of where you can go from where and how?

There are transportation maps, but no real route maps like a city bus/subway system that I'm aware of.

It's very well signed, though so as long you look for the signs, you'll end up in the right place. In addition, each bus will have a sign on the front with it's destination. They just go from pick-up to drop-off so it's not like you have to know if there is a stop in between. The only exception are the two routes that cover the water parks on the way to a final destination, but those are well marked, too.

Buses from the resorts will go to one of the parks or Downtown Disney only. Buses from the parks will go to resorts. At each park bus depot, each resort has a well marked pick-up station.

The monorails are also well marked. You have 2 choices for the Magic Kingdom and one choice for Epcot. For the Magic Kingdom, you have a resort loop that stops at all monorail resorts and the ticket & transportation center. Or, you have an express loop that runs just from Magic Kingdom to the Ticket & Transportation Center. AT the TTC, you have a line that runs to Epcot and back.

Again, just follow signs or ask a cast member and you'll be in great shape.

There is a seperate bus for each park and they each have a header telling you where that particular bus is going to.

Thanks..still seems kinda confusing for a DLR vet who just skips across the space between DL and DCA :)
I'm sure it will be easier when I'm there..hopefully.

We just stayed there last week and had excellent service. Plus at EPCOT the OKW bus stop is the closest one to the park! I think at MK is was the second closest.

We stayed at OKW a year ago, we had no problems with busses our entire time there. We went early for rope drop every morning, and we sometimes came "home" for a midday break. We really like OKW :goodvibes

We normally rent a car, but have gone without, and often use the bus system even with a car---transportation at OKW has not given us any reason to complain.
