WE HAVE STAYED AT THE CBR, AND THE CONTEMPORARY, AND WOULD LIKE TO STAY AT OKW. DOES ANYONE HAVE AN OPINION
ABOUT THIS RESORT? WHAT ARE THE RESTRAUNTS LIKE? IS THERE
A GAME ROOM? I HAVE READ IT IS A VERY RELAXED AREA. I LIKE THE IDEA OF A SMALL KITCHEN FOR EAT IN BREAKFASTS. YOUR OPINION WILL BE OF GREAT HELP.:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

You will get a lot of responses on the DVC forum.

OKW is a wonderful, laid back resort.

The studios are the largest hotel rooms at Disney (not counting the one bedrooms and higher).

Each studio contains two queen sized beds and small "wet bar" that has a refrig, microwave, toaster, and coffee pot.

They is only on restaurant at OKW, but you can catch a boat to DD.

OKW is beautiful and very relaxed. The only draw back I find is no slide at any of the pools...actually it's a drawback for my kids , not me! There is one sit down restaurant, Olivia's and a take out window at the main pool area nad at the Turtle Pond pool area. There is a game room and basketball, tennis, volleyball courts. The rooms, even the studios are very large, you'll love all the extra space and of course the kitchenette is a big bonus.

We stayed in a studio last year (building 55) and loved it. Our building was located directly next to a private pool that was rarely crowded. In addition, we had a hot tub that was way too relaxing ;)

We loved the idea of the kitchenette. We were able to go to a local Publix and stock up on sodas, juice, fruits, and other snacks. By eating breakfast in our room (on the balcony overlooking the canal), we were able to save a significant amount of money.

The bathroom is huge (wish the one at my home was this big).

The rooms have two comfy queen sized beds, a dinette, a balcony, a roomy closet, a microwave, a refrigerator, and lots of other wonderful features.

The resort's pools do not have slides, but I don't think too many people cared. All the kids seemed to be having tons of fun anyway.

The restaurant is called Olivia's and is very good. We enjoyed lunch there several times, and always had a great meal. The Gurgling Suitcase is a great place to stop for a drink after a long, fun, exhausting day! :D

We stayed at OKW many moons ago (it was called the Disney Vacation Club at the time. They had not started the current version of the DVC yet). It was one of the best resorts at which we've stayed. Our studio room was new (tells you how long ago it was) and you could smell how new the carpet was (a CM said we were the first to stay in the room). We loved it there. The rooms are spacious and the mini-kitchenette was handy. You should have a private balcony, which may not seem like a big deal, but considering the layout of the resort, you feel more secluded than in a regular hotel. The boat transportation to DD is a plus. You're not in the hustle and bustle of traffic and it's a more relaxing way to get there.

We stayed in a OKW studio last year, and really enjoyed this resort and all of the amenities! The rooms are very large; and as a previous poster already mentioned, the bathrooms are HUGE! Our room was very clean nothing was worn. We stayed in a 3rd floor studio in building 14, directly across from the Hospitality House. We loved the location, as it was a just a hop, skip, and a jump to catch the bus and to the main pool. We did not eat at Olivia's, but did partake in the pizza delivery option (very good pizza, by the way!). The area with the fridge, etc, is set between the bathroom and bedroom area, and is very roomy (and out of the way from your sleeping area, which is nice). The whole resort does have a laid-back vibe, but there is plenty to do when you want some time away from the parks: basketball, shuffleboard, tennis, surrey bikes, arcade(s), a kids club, and beautiful walking areas. Community Hall has a selection of videos you can check out, and also has board games/cards. OKW also has free laundry facilities. The only negative comment I have is that our unit had a locked door that bordered a one bedroom unit, and we could hear our neighbors through that door which was a little annoying. Other than that, I have only great things to say about OKW, and would stay there again (if only my pocktetbook would allow!) without hesitation.

I have a question about the beds ?? I stayed a CBR last Dec and have OKW booked this Dec -- anyhoo are the beds the same size at the two resorts ? I have to share w/ DD or DS (9 & 6) each night ! Thanks Michelle

OKW studios have two queen sized beds. The moderate resorts have two double sized beds.

I love Old Key West! I my DVC points there and really enjoy it there. It's very laid back :).

Here are photos from my stay there 2 years ago:

Deb & Bill - i had to share a CBR bed with Megan the Bed Hog last year and was hoping these would be bigger - I have a Queen at home so that will work out much better .. Thanks Michelle

Just a word of warning - DON'T REQUEST A FIRST FLOOR ROOM!!! I did that in Feb of 2000 and it was one of the most uncomfortable rooms I had ever been in. Beds were waaaayyyyyy too soft and saggy and it appeared it was mainly a handicapped room so the shower was just that - a shower with floor that did not have a side to it - it just went right along with the regular floor.

The rooms for the studios are great but there is not and "eat-in" area like you would think, it's a table next to the patio door and the connecting room door. But there are two chairs and the table is nice sized. Our points are at OKW too and we love the "relaxed' feel to it also. We ate breakfast one day at Olivia's and the food was GREAT!!! We did get burgers and salads at the eat out place by the pool and that food was not too bad either. We have stayed both times in building 25 (or maybe it was 26) which is just over the bridge from the Hospitality House and near a bus stop (which we were thankful for at the end of a very long day)!

In the building we were in, everything was opposite of Robin's pics, including the sink/micro area. The sink was on the left and the fridge and micro were on the right. They now also have toasters. The patio was on the opposite side and so was the doors. The TV/armoire was in the middle directly across from the beds with the open area at the door that comes from outside.

The regular studios have a tub/shower combination. It does sound like December99 got a wheelchair accessible roll in shower. There are only 20 wheelchair accessible studios in the whole resort, according to an email reply I got from Member Services, so your chances of getting one are not that high. If you want first floor, but really don't want to roll in shower, just let them know that when you make your reservations.
As for the mattresses, I don't think there are any differences in mattresses between the first or second floor (or between the mattresses in the wheelchair accessible rooms vs the regular rooms).
Also, not all of the rooms have the connecting door to the next room. There are "lock off" studios where the door can be opened between the studio and the one bedroom unit next store to make a 2 bedroom unit. There are also dedicated studios that are not connected to another room.

There are also dedicated studios that are not connected to another room.

I don't think there are too many of these. The dedicated 2-bedroom is more common.

6315 is a great 1st floor studio, non-handicapped, with a good view of the golf hole surrounded by water. Beds are wonderful, not saggy at all. We also stayed in 6417, on the end, but it is harder to find a parking spot for Bldg 64 since there wasn't room for a lot right outside the building. We liked 6225, second floor studio (think it was a studio at least) right on the end, with a view of the water.

They make a mean Club sandwich at Olivia's. Wanda is a fun server at Olivia's, too.

Another note if you really want a first floor room - make sure to tell them you'd like one that the patio does not have a tree in the way of the view!!!! Along with the handicapped accessible room we got, we also had a tree right on the patio. I'm talking, you couldn't even sit in the chair because the tree was taking up most of the area and I, at a whole 4'9", would have been hitting my head on a few branches. To me, if I'm going to be spending time there or even to wind down before bed and I have a patio - I want to be able to sit out on it.

The other advantage that we had in building 21 or 25 (I can't remember which one it was) on the second floor the balcony faced the Epcot area and we could see Illuminations and hear the music. It was cool!!!
