OKW slide completion date?

There has been no announcement from DVC about the slide except verbal comments made at the OKW and BWV annual meetings.

From the reports made here from the meetings, no completion date was suggested.

Stay Tuned!

We still haven't gotten a "start" date. ;)

As one at the OKW meeting, I don't remember them announcing a date (and I was listening). I was concerned when it would be, since I was hoping it wouldn't be at a time of great swimming weather. It would seem to me that they might want to do it before the Member's Homecoming, but since they didn't announce a specific date, maybe it's just a "whenever we get round 'tuit'", then they might not ever get round 'tuit'.

[sigh] If the annual meeting did not have one person rubber-stamping a pre-agreed upon vote, I would have loved to say I do not wish to pay more dues for the upkeep and lifeguards for this feature. But it is too late. They say they polled the owners, but I was never polled about this. It is so easy to pool hop or stay at a different property if you want to use their slide pool. Oh well.

At the BWV meeting when they mentioned the OKW slide, they said it is still in the design phase. I saw a post somewhere that rumor was construction would not start until September. If you feel strongly against it, why don't you contact DVC? Probably will not do any good but at least you will have your feelings known.

At the OKW annual meeting on December 10, 2003 Sonya (the OKW GM) stated the design phase of the slide project was to begin in "early 2004." To the best of my memory, no other info was given regarding the new slide & dates.

I was told my friends that work there, work would begin in Jan.

If and when this happens, how long of a project is this?

I don't think we can make an estimate until we hear what is really planned. If they are just going to stick a slide on the pool it can probably be done in a weekend. If they are going to do some landscaping and remodeling of the pool area I'm not sure how long it would take -- maybe a month?

I am sorry, but this is precisely why OKW needs it's own enhanced pool with a slide and life guards.

Do you mean Jan. 2004 (now) or Jan. 2005?

Jan 2004.

Now as to whether that means actual ground breaking or just the preplanning, not sure and no word on how long it will take.

So if it's scheduled to begin in January, 2004, that means a "slide watch"! If you're going to OKW soon, keep your eyes open for any sign of construction/ground breaking at the main pool. Maybe the CMs there might know something too.
